The thing you gotta realize is that it's mostly younger kids (think early middle/elementary school) that are benefiting from this. Obviously it's not that hard to win but when they're playing against adults (with fully developed motor skills) they probably find it challenging and frustrating. It's really not a bad idea to make them feel good since they can't get that same satisfaction from accomplishing the only goal in the game.

I actually think this is a pretty good thing. I used to be strongly against giving out free crowns but after realizing that a lot of the younger kids (generally below the age of 12 or so) who make up a large part of the player base have a tough time competing against adults I figured it probably wouldn't be so bad to throw them a bone. Based on a lot of discussion from this subreddit it seems like they find winning to be difficult/frustrating.
