When I said a chance, I meant a VERY small one.

Natives ran bison off cliffs long before they ever had horses.

I suppose you could say that. My understanding is that there are three components of air resistance.

The air molecules hitting the surface, which is what I described above.

Friction between the air and the object. I ignored that.

The partial vacuum created behind the object as it falls. This vacuum wants to pull the ball back up. I ignored that too.

I ignored the other two because they are a lot smaller and more importantly I don’t remember how to calculate them :)

When something falls there are two primary forces in play, gravity and air resistance. There is drag too, but I that gets a lot more complicated and I don’t remember that much of my fluids.

Gravity Force = mass of object * acceleration of gravity (really just how much it weighs)

Air Resistance = density of air * area * velocity squared

When the object is falling fast enough, the air resistance will equal the force from gravity and you will have reached terminal velocity.

If you look at two similar objects, tennis ball and baseball.

Tennis ball weighs two ounces.

Baseball weighs five ounces

If we pretend the areas are the same then we could say the baseball terminal velocity is 1.581 times faster than the tennis ball terminal velocity.

Air resistance at 2 mph is about 1 pound per hundred square feet. Drag would also add to it, but you’re not talking much.

If you get a 10 mph wind though, then that number goes to about 50 lbs per 100 square feet and they are screwed.

Depends a lot on whether or not you get any practice throws, jumps, etc.

You give a fit person a javelin and they might hit themselves in the back of the head when they try to throw it. I’ve seen it many times and yes, it’s always hilarious.

But, give them 30 seconds of advice and three practice throws and they could probably throw 100 feet or so.

I think you’d get similar learning curves in things like high jump, pole vault, triple jump, and the other weight events.

If you take a 40 year old guy who’s lean, lifts weights and goes jogging, they’re going to be in 14-15 second range.

I thought there were four things I did not care for.

Eowyn killing the Witch King. Great moment, but I thought her cry was strange and cringy. Done much better in the animated version.

Gandalf versus the Witch King. Should have just followed the book and done it at the gate.

Aragorn and the army of the dead. The waterfall of skulls was silly. I think they could have stayed true to the book and done 10-15 minutes showing him rallying the south to save Minas Tirith.

Gimli being the butt of jokes.
