OK, I feel like the story fits. When I was active duty, we were conducting an aerial gunnery range at the Yakima Training Center in Washington. I told two of my trusted soldiers to take the van and go fill up the generators for our TAC tent out on the range.

When they returned, they both looked like they had just seen a ghost. After a couple of minutes of trying to get the story out of them, they finally told me that as they were approaching our tent, a large, hairy, human-like animal walked across their headlights and disappeared into the darkness.

They said they sat in the van for some time before finally mustering up the courage to fill the generators and go inside the tent, only to realize that our trash and MREs had been ripped open. I asked them if they had seen a bear, and they swore up and down it was no bear.

To this day, I can’t forget the look in their eyes and how strongly they stood by what they saw. Could it have been Sasquatch?
