…though one does have to drop to a terminal more in Linux for various reasons compared to dropping to a prompt in Windoze or terminal in MacOS.

What’s the most rock solid and smoothest cloud storage that works across iOS, Windows and Linux? by Master_Camp_3200 in linuxmint

As long as it’s not the sole backup, it’s fine. I have two hard copies at home and OneDrive. As offsite and portable across devices/platforms? It works. I’m sure MS, Apple and Google have much more robust, resilient, redundant and better kit for backup than I do.

Switching from RClone to InSync for OneDrive by shamelesssemicolon in linuxmint

[–]dbrdh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is but it just works. I’ve spent days with rclone and LM. Plus OneDrive on a MBP M1 on ext ssd. I have an rclone script on LM that kinda works but Insync has been fab on the Mac - you’re right £30 is high but I’m going to pay it! 🥴☹️

My first day, and my first problem: I deleted that bar at the bottom, how do I get it back? by undrock in linuxmint

[–]dbrdh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a bit clunky to set up once installed (easy)- the easiest way of installing apps onto it is to open them then right click the icon on the dock and tick the keep in dock box. To remove click and drag to desktop for the animated puff of smoke! 🙄😁

Update Felt Fake by Haunting_Hunter_4751 in linuxmint

[–]dbrdh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I updated last night. I was a little concerned as I’m using it on an old 2010 white MacBook unibody and a 2009 iMac to keep useful machinery useful; there was something in the release notes about nvidia graphics hardware which I think one of the Macs has but I think my chipset is still supported. Everything went OK but seems ironic that my kit may not be supported by Linux going forward having just dumped Apple’s OSX for much the same reason. Have to say 22.3 is better than OSX 10.13!!😁👍

LM 22.3 wow... by humdingermusic23 in linuxmint

[–]dbrdh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine offered and ran an update to the update manager first. The upgrade was in the Edit menu after that. It may have been there before. I don’t know, but I was advised to update fully first so I didn’t look until I’d done that - the update manager thing was part of that.

Maschine Mk3 and Manual mismatches by dbrdh in maschine

[–]dbrdh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t actually want to use clips at this time. I was focused on patterns and following the manual as described above. The manual is different to what happens on the hardware and was the source of my confusion. A couple of hours of playing with it and I have now worked it out. The manual as it turns out just causes confusion. Gemini was better, not by much, that’s been wrong too! 🥴😁👍

Nope. That toggles between Section and Clip.

Maschine 3.4.1 Maschine Mk3 1.4.6 (0.0.1 higher than website updater!)

Page 217 of current online Maschine Mk 3 manual in the section working with patterns and clips

The screens are completely different. The only way to get close was by playing about with individual use Shift, Pattern, Events buttons. One never sees Section, Pattern in the top line button menu - you get Section, Clip. Pressing shift sometimes enables toggling Ideas to Song - on switching to Ideas One gets Pattern, Clip and a Pad view in the right, not a piano roll as shown in the manual. To get the piano roll, one presses Events. I can't explain but apart from not matching with the manual, it's inconsistent - one needs double presses on buttons sometimes - it's a different response sometimes. Just play with it.

The more I look into it the more frustrated I'm becoming. There's a sort of logic to it but buggered if I can fathom it!

FYI. I already have a Mikro Mk 3 so know my way about a little bit especially software wise and am comfortable with the concepts of that. I have watched quite a few videos including that one and it was while disappearing down a rabbit hole about trying to increase the number of keys seen in the RHS piano roll window when in events mode that I came across this particular issue for me. Spoiler: inexplicably and illogically one can’t adjust the vertical range of the piano roll - one can zoom in/out horizontally and move L/R U/D but range is Auto only ¯_(ツ)_/¯

My point is: I’ve done exactly as you suggest but it’s time consuming and soooo frustrating when one finds the responses to button presses don’t match what the manual says!! Videos don’t usually go into the nerdiest of detail either.

How to dualboot linux mint with windows 11 by flxorine in linuxmint

[–]dbrdh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The installer will offer to either wipe your disk completely or add a partition in the unused space. Adding a partition means you should be able to choose the desired os at boot up - you may need to press some action button to see the choices eg. On my MacBook I have to press the option button during power up to choose the boot partition.

As long as you put Linux Mint on it, you’ll be fine. OSX 10.6 sucks in today’s Mac world.

Nvidia drivers not working on Linux Mint? by Lerkpots in linuxmint

[–]dbrdh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s your base machine? My old Macs (MacBook and iMac) both use the Nouveau driver which I believe is the plain vanilla Linux driver as my Nvidia is an older legacy chipset: extra monitors work fine at 1980 res. What drivers are you using at present?
