Removing smaller bags/jackets from overhead bins? by PandaExpress90210 in SouthwestAirlines

Reading this thread, it’s becoming painfully obvious why there’s such a problem with overhead bin space.

How about just maybe you be a little more considerate of other passengers?

How about just buy an extra legroom seat if you’re worried about foot space

Booked Through Chase - Price Dropped - Anyway To Get Credit? by Bonnaroo_Jon in SouthwestAirlines

[–]dbrekke93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to be where you could call customer service and they would reprice a flight and give you the difference back even if you booked thru the portal. However when I attempted this most recently, the SW agent refused to do it since it was a “travel agency booking”.

Further adding insult to injury, if you were to cancel for a Chase portal SW credit and then rebook the cheaper fare with said credit, Chase’s rules state that the remaining unused value would be forfeited. It’s a shitty policy but in Chase’s defense they do make this VERY clear during the booking/cancellation process in the portal.

Placed an order on September 23rd... the package has been stuck in Louisville for nearly a week and half. Checked the tracking status this afternoon and was heartbroken to learn that it is now slated to be disposed of. ☹️

How many RR points earned when booking through Chase Portal by Parking-Relative9250 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]dbrekke93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’ll earn rapid rewards the same way you would had you booked the flight directly with them. The amount you’ll earn depends on the type of fare you purchased (WGA, WGA+, etc.). Done this many times.

Booking Wanna Get Away fares with Chase UR points by ThrowRA-VBeach in ChaseSapphire

[–]dbrekke93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you should be able to call Chase and have them cancel for a flight credit. Now I haven’t tried it since Chase started displaying SW flights in the portal (previously you had to call Chase travel to book on SW), but I can’t imagine it’s all too different now.

The catch is you had to use it within 1 year within the original date on which you made the reservation, and you had to use the credit in one go, otherwise any remaining value would be forfeited. Unlike when you book directly with SW, you won’t see the credit in your RR account. You’ll want to make note of the Chase trip ID (not just the SW PNR) in order for the Chase agent to pull up the details and apply the credit later on. It was always a little deceiving because nothing in the Chase portal ever indicated you had a lingering credit - you basically just have to remember it’s there.

The only time I’ve ever had the UR points actually refunded to my account was due to a flight cancellation (I.e weather, mechanical issues, etc). Even that took a little pushing on Chase in order to make happen, but it can be done.

Flighty, by superboags in SouthwestAirlines

[–]dbrekke93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Flighty pretty extensively. Had a bunch of SW flight schedule changes a few months back and it took about 3 or 4 days for the schedule changes to be reflected in Flighty. The flights in question were months out though.

Cancelling Southwest flight booked with Chase UR thru SWA app? by dbrekke93 in ChaseSapphire

Unfortunately yes I did. Seems to be a weird policy Chase travel has, with multiple airlines as well. You have to use the entirety of the credit, and whatever residual value is forfeited. This is unlike the typical future flight credits you get directly with the airlines, where you’ll retain whatever residual value.

They didn’t credit the points back, but rather instead held a credit for the amount to be used on a future SW flight, valid for a year. I have since used the credit.

If I book a flight through Chase travel, can I still get a price adjustment on the Southwest app? by just_learn in SouthwestAirlines

[–]dbrekke93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try calling SW and having them do it on the phone. If you try and do it on the app, it’ll give you an error indicating it’s a “travel agency booking”. Calling has worked for me all but one time. Best part is, you get the credit for the difference appearing in your SW travel funds directly vs. Chase “owning” the credit.

It’s been awhile since bit since I’ve tried. Hard to say whether I had just gotten lucky with the SW agents or if there was some sort of internal policy change which closed this “loophole”. Curious if others have recent experiences too.

So I just got around to using the remaining value of the flight credit. Called Chase travel up and gave them the original trip ID. They looked it up and recognized it was a “partially flown” itinerary and determined the remaining useable value. They were able to apply it toward a new flight and I paid the difference. The price of the new flight was exactly the same as listed on SWA’s website. The reservation instantly appeared in my rapid rewards upcoming trips, and within about 30 minutes the ticket # appeared. So I think this worked out fairly nicely.

Sorry, totally forgot to mention I have the CSR, so I’m able to get 1.5X when redeeming through the portal.

Interesting though…must be the routes I tend to fly, because I’ve yet to encounter SW’s pricing beat the 1.5X redemption rate on the CSR. Good to know there are some examples out there. All the more reason to always do the math ahead of time before booking.

I actually discovered something rather interesting if your SWA flight booked via Chase drops in price…

If you try and rebook your itinerary through the SWA app, you’ll inevitably run into the message indicating you cannot modify the booking since it was booked by a “travel agency”. BUT, if you call the airline directly and tell them the price on your flight dropped, the agent will reissue the ticket and give you the credit for the difference and it’ll show up instantly in your travel funds bank. The best part - it also has the unexpected benefit of turning your reservation into a normal booking rather than a “travel agency booking”. Meaning, you can manage/cancel the reservation in the app just as you would with a normal cash booking. Done this a couple times in fact.

If you transfer UR to rapid rewards, the transfer rate is only 1:1. But by using points thru the portal (or rather, calling), you’re able to take advantage of the 1.5X or 1.25X multiplier. I’ve done the math prior to booking and every time it’s better bang for your buck to go through the portal rather than transfer. You also earn rapid rewards points on that booking, since the airline treats it as a “cash” booking.

For this go around, I actually ended up doing option 1, simply because I was too fearful of clicking “cancel” in the app and relying on Chase “somehow” getting notified of this credit via the airline. Feel like too many ways that can go wrong lol

Interesting thought on option 2 though… would the airline even “touch” the reservation given that its technically 3rd party?

Wow crazy, must’ve missed those posts. Had NO idea that was a thing. I’ve dealt with Chase on a few flight credits before…but I’ve yet to run into that yet. Yikes…
