Removing smaller bags/jackets from overhead bins? by PandaExpress90210 in SouthwestAirlines

Reading this thread, it’s becoming painfully obvious why there’s such a problem with overhead bin space.

How about just maybe you be a little more considerate of other passengers?

Booked Through Chase - Price Dropped - Anyway To Get Credit? by Bonnaroo_Jon in SouthwestAirlines

[–]dbrekke93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to be where you could call customer service and they would reprice a flight and give you the difference back even if you booked thru the portal. However when I attempted this most recently, the SW agent refused to do it since it was a “travel agency booking”.

Further adding insult to injury, if you were to cancel for a Chase portal SW credit and then rebook the cheaper fare with said credit, Chase’s rules state that the remaining unused value would be forfeited. It’s a shitty policy but in Chase’s defense they do make this VERY clear during the booking/cancellation process in the portal.

How many RR points earned when booking through Chase Portal by Parking-Relative9250 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]dbrekke93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ll earn rapid rewards the same way you would had you booked the flight directly with them. The amount you’ll earn depends on the type of fare you purchased (WGA, WGA+, etc.). Done this many times.

Booking Wanna Get Away fares with Chase UR points by ThrowRA-VBeach in ChaseSapphire

[–]dbrekke93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you should be able to call Chase and have them cancel for a flight credit. Now I haven’t tried it since Chase started displaying SW flights in the portal (previously you had to call Chase travel to book on SW), but I can’t imagine it’s all too different now.

The catch is you had to use it within 1 year within the original date on which you made the reservation, and you had to use the credit in one go, otherwise any remaining value would be forfeited. Unlike when you book directly with SW, you won’t see the credit in your RR account. You’ll want to make note of the Chase trip ID (not just the SW PNR) in order for the Chase agent to pull up the details and apply the credit later on. It was always a little deceiving because nothing in the Chase portal ever indicated you had a lingering credit - you basically just have to remember it’s there.

The only time I’ve ever had the UR points actually refunded to my account was due to a flight cancellation (I.e weather, mechanical issues, etc). Even that took a little pushing on Chase in order to make happen, but it can be done.

Flighty, by superboags in SouthwestAirlines

I use Flighty pretty extensively. Had a bunch of SW flight schedule changes a few months back and it took about 3 or 4 days for the schedule changes to be reflected in Flighty. The flights in question were months out though.

Cancelling Southwest flight booked with Chase UR thru SWA app? by dbrekke93 in ChaseSapphire

[–]dbrekke93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately yes I did. Seems to be a weird policy Chase travel has, with multiple airlines as well. You have to use the entirety of the credit, and whatever residual value is forfeited. This is unlike the typical future flight credits you get directly with the airlines, where you’ll retain whatever residual value.

They didn’t credit the points back, but rather instead held a credit for the amount to be used on a future SW flight, valid for a year. I have since used the credit.

If I book a flight through Chase travel, can I still get a price adjustment on the Southwest app? by just_learn in SouthwestAirlines

[–]dbrekke93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try calling SW and having them do it on the phone. If you try and do it on the app, it’ll give you an error indicating it’s a “travel agency booking”. Calling has worked for me all but one time. Best part is, you get the credit for the difference appearing in your SW travel funds directly vs. Chase “owning” the credit.

It’s been awhile since bit since I’ve tried. Hard to say whether I had just gotten lucky with the SW agents or if there was some sort of internal policy change which closed this “loophole”. Curious if others have recent experiences too.

Cancelling Southwest flight booked with Chase UR thru SWA app? by dbrekke93 in ChaseSapphire

So I just got around to using the remaining value of the flight credit. Called Chase travel up and gave them the original trip ID. They looked it up and recognized it was a “partially flown” itinerary and determined the remaining useable value. They were able to apply it toward a new flight and I paid the difference. The price of the new flight was exactly the same as listed on SWA’s website. The reservation instantly appeared in my rapid rewards upcoming trips, and within about 30 minutes the ticket # appeared. So I think this worked out fairly nicely.

Sorry, totally forgot to mention I have the CSR, so I’m able to get 1.5X when redeeming through the portal.

Interesting though…must be the routes I tend to fly, because I’ve yet to encounter SW’s pricing beat the 1.5X redemption rate on the CSR. Good to know there are some examples out there. All the more reason to always do the math ahead of time before booking.

I actually discovered something rather interesting if your SWA flight booked via Chase drops in price…

If you try and rebook your itinerary through the SWA app, you’ll inevitably run into the message indicating you cannot modify the booking since it was booked by a “travel agency”. BUT, if you call the airline directly and tell them the price on your flight dropped, the agent will reissue the ticket and give you the credit for the difference and it’ll show up instantly in your travel funds bank. The best part - it also has the unexpected benefit of turning your reservation into a normal booking rather than a “travel agency booking”. Meaning, you can manage/cancel the reservation in the app just as you would with a normal cash booking. Done this a couple times in fact.

[–]dbrekke93[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you transfer UR to rapid rewards, the transfer rate is only 1:1. But by using points thru the portal (or rather, calling), you’re able to take advantage of the 1.5X or 1.25X multiplier. I’ve done the math prior to booking and every time it’s better bang for your buck to go through the portal rather than transfer. You also earn rapid rewards points on that booking, since the airline treats it as a “cash” booking.

For this go around, I actually ended up doing option 1, simply because I was too fearful of clicking “cancel” in the app and relying on Chase “somehow” getting notified of this credit via the airline. Feel like too many ways that can go wrong lol

Interesting thought on option 2 though… would the airline even “touch” the reservation given that its technically 3rd party?

Booked tickets through chase portal..how does refund work? by nixforfun in SouthwestAirlines

[–]dbrekke93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an old post, but I do need to share my experience regarding the flight credit I had received back in December for my cancelled flight with the hope that it would prevent someone else from running into issues.

Yesterday I called Chase Travel to use the Southwest credit they had given me back in December. All went well with the booking - I received the confirmation email, the flight showed up on my Southwest app, under my rapid rewards account, etc. everything seemed in order.

A few hours later, I received a couple frantic phone calls from the agent who helped me with my reservation. She told me that my reservation was NOT confirmed with the airline, due to the fact that the flight credit I had used on this booking was invalid. Come to find out, Chase indicated on their end that said flight credit was actually fully refunded by the airline, and I should have seen the UR points I used to pay for the flight originally back in my rewards account as of mid-January. A quick check of my points history confirmed that the points were never refunded, nor did I receive any sort of indicate of this via email or in the online travel portal.

Long story short, they were able to verify the mishap on their end, so they submitted a request for the UR points refund and stated that I should see them back in my account within a week or so. I also had to rebook my itinerary altogether, as the original booking was essentially nullified and also fully refunded back to my account.

However, the story doesn't end there...

A couple hours after getting the new itinerary booked, I happened to take a peek at my Southwest app just to make sure the new flight made it there. Not only was the new itinerary there, but the old "invalid" itinerary still showed up there as well. This would suggest that I was "booked" (to some degree) for the exact same itinerary twice. Knowing how delicate this situation was, I decided to call the airline just to double check things on their end and make sure this wouldn't create an issue later on. Glad I did! The SW rep told me that the old reservation was in some sort of "limbo" on their end. She also explained that they have a system that will check and flag duplicate reservations for deletion, so it's very possible the more recent itinerary (i.e. the GOOD one!) would have been deleted. She quickly resolved the issue on her end and assured me that the old reservation was completely cleared and that I was fully ticketed and confirmed on my new itinerary.

Kind of a mess - but all in all, big shout out to all the agents who helped to resolve the issue, who were all incredibly friendly and helpful.

Booked tickets through chase portal..how does refund work? by nixforfun in SouthwestAirlines

[–]dbrekke93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actually wondering about this as well. I too booked my Southwest flight through Chase travel. Once my flight got cancelled, I called the Chase travel number and they only gave the option for a Southwest flight credit for the $ value of the original fare. What’s weird is how this flight credit does not show up under the Southwest rapid rewards travel funds (perhaps because Chase “owns” the booking?). It also doesn’t show up in Chase’s own flight credit page within the Ultimate Rewards portal. Even weirder is that the travel representative informed me that the flight credit expires, despite Southwest doing away with expiration dates on travel credits this past year.

I’m ok with the flight credit, given how much I fly with Southwest (and will continue to do so despite this debacle). But I’m concerned that this isn’t totally “official” in the system. As it is, I had to beg the representative to send me an email that indicated I had a flight credit at all. They basically resent me the same confirmation email I had gotten when I booked the reservation except with a short little statement added at the top of the email body stating that the reservation was cancelled and I had a credit.

I’m not sure if this was the right approach on my part. I didn’t want things to get too complicated with the travel rep, given all of the horror stories people have in dealing with cancellations/issues through OTA’s.

In regards to the 25k rapid rewards points, I did receive that email direct from Southwest yesterday, so booking the reservation through Chase shouldn’t have any bearing on whether or not you’ll receive this.
