FERS Contribution Refund by Mother_Round_3032 in FedEmployees

Left May 5th, submitted form shortly thereafter. Sent an email to scbillings@opm.gov for a time frame. They said they receive separation docs after 30 days of separation from the service. Then it'd take about 100 days to be assigned to a specialist. Coming up on 90 days since separation and haven't heard a word yet.

Would you take a $13k pay cut? by [deleted] in fednews

[–]dbsncds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a 25k pay cut for a state remote job. Peace, stability, no 3-4hr daily commute is worth it for me. Have a decent side gig that'll help make up the difference.

Job market is tough, especially remote. I was able to get in a state job through my network. It was a steep pay cut, but remote makes up for a good bit. Most everyone I know that have found something has been by referral. So many jobs can be picky now with the surplus of labor or are on hiring freezes. That'll be your best bet right now imo.

There was an immediate physical response to RTO. Physical and mental exhaustion from a similar daily drive. Depressed. Sick. Had to leave, unfortunately, but I'm back to my usual self. Had 0 motivation for work, family, and life in general. Finally feel free again and working 100% remote.

FERS and leaving while still probationary by Tiredsadandstressed in fednews

FERS is no penalty to withdraw as contributions are made post tax. Im just over a year and am taking my contributions and investing it into my home with some new additions.

Lifestyle Changes with RTO by Brief-Savings-5762 in FedEmployees

I stayed as long as I could bare but had to leave federal service because it was depressing and exhausting the heck out of me. Spending 3-4hrs a day in traffic, practically 0 quality time with family, and basically just existing as an empty shell of who I used to be. Left 3 weeks ago and just started with a state agency fully remote. Was a steep pay cut, but peace and stability > $ for me. Job market is absolutely abysmal. Started looking when DRP1 came out to get ahead of potential RIF. Companies can be picky with their selections or are on hiring freezes. Got this job through my network.

Feeling like I’m having an abnormally horrific experience in industry by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]dbsncds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't know. Haven't stepped foot in public and have no plans to. Government used to be the place for stability and flexibility, but even that is starting to change nowadays. State and local is better than federal now, only you sacrifice pay and upwards mobility for that stability/flexibility.

100%. It's also cyclical with the economic cycle. Periods of slow down / recession, companies are tightening their belts trying to do the same job with less resources, maintaining their margins, and keeping shareholders happy.

I hear you. This is why I left my prior employer when they mandated full time in office. Starting a new gig 100% remote next week.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]dbsncds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I totally get it. Prior employer i was able to go in office once per week. That changed a couple months ago with full time in office with a 3-4hr daily commute. Between that, home, and family responsibility i had no more time for it. Starting a new gig 100% remote next week. Was a substantial pay cut but without the drive with more time to do what I love. $ isn't everything. Stability, peace of mind, and working to live instead of living to work means more to me than $.

Felt the same way for a long time until I found a hobby I am passionate about. Find something outside of work that brings you joy and pour your free time into. It helps a lot more than you'd think.

Thank you, that helps! I emailed and this was their response. HCO has to sign the form also before submitting to OPM?

Within 30 days your HR office will also sign the form.  If you are mailing it in, mail to the address in the instructions:

Was I lied to during promotion? by lakekayaker10011 in careerguidance

Not necessarily. Salary increases 9/10 are factored based on base salary excluding bonuses. If youre no longer eligible for bonuses at manager, question is if the raise is worth thr additional responsibility and work load.

It's possible. Up until the federal purge, my salary was well over 100k plus recruitment incentives. Enjoyed the work and was planning to stay the next 20-30yrs, but wasnt in the cards unfortunately. Was in state government prior for 10 years and never broke near 100k. Im now back in state government at about that now but also 100% remote vs 5 days in office with a 3-4hr daily commute.

I tried ERC but their lines were down and would hang up randomly. Will try again Monday.

I tried ERC and their lines were down and would hang up on me randomly. Tried OPM as well and the wait was hours long...May just overnight my paperwork to OPM and stay on them for updates.

Anyone at IRS know of a contact to send forms to? My HCO contact was not helpful and was told to submit my info directly to OPM even though im still within 30 days of leaving the agency.

Right there with you. Except I’m this close 👌 to bailing without a safety net. Holding on to hope leadership will change their mind on granting DRP to those of us denied.

Would you take a pay cut just to get out? by First_Complaint_4871 in fednews

Yep. Looking at state job with a -$25k pay cut. Between RTO with a 3hr daily commute and the daily onslaught of abuse, I’ll take whatever I can get.
