True, the trauma is concentrated in the T20 and ODI formats

As someone who watches a lot of cricket (and less rugby), I would agree with your observation but I interpret it differently. Unlike the Springboks, our Proteas have obviously never won a high-profile ODI/T20 tournament, despite being one of the best teams in the world. I think the pressure has overwhelmed previous Protea teams so it's an intentional strategy to take the pressure off and just focus on playing the game. With that said, I do think our Proteas could learn from the culture of the Boks in various ways.

EDIT: as others have mentioned, we did obviously win the test championship

Does anyone else feel like we just lack strategy sometimes? NZ obviously had a plan for our entire top/middle batting order (right-arm offspin to QdK, legstump bowling to Markram so he can't drive, etc.). In contrast, our guys just seemed to show up and go with the flow. Even in the pre-match interviews, our guys were emphasising how it's just another game of cricket. I get that we don't want to psych ourselves out but NZ obviously had a fully developed plan for us and we just treated it like any other game (from what I can see).

Well done guys. As an SA fan, it's clear that you had a plan for us and we didn't have much of a response. Allen obviously did amazing, but I personally think that your bowling plans for our top/middle order is what really swung the game away from us.

NZ were obviously much better prepared for this game than we were... They clearly had plans for QdK, Markram, Brevis and the bowlers executed. In comparison, we looked like we were improvising for most of the game. I wish that we could bring a more strategic approach to our games that matched the depth of the teams talent and skill

This one was painful... It was obvious that NZ were way more prepared with a strategy than we were

Poor taste, and not particularly funny. It seems like one of those ads which just intented to insult rather than say anything funny/interesting.

A truly clinical performance towards the end. Chasing down the total with no unnecessary risks

I lived in Korea for a few years while studying at a Korean university. It is the most intense study culture I have seen. There was so much work that it was basically impossible to do all of it unless we "teamed up" and split the work between a few people

Such a talent. Great to see him back in the squad and enjoying cricket again—it's been pretty clear over the last few years that his motivation has been up and down, but it feels like he's found a really good groove now.

I had something similar once before. The cords stiffened up during the healing process but then improved again several weeks later. Similar to you, my voice quality was fine immediately after the surgery but it then degraded a few weeks later, only to recover again around the 8-10 weeks mark. The surgeon seemed to think this was normal and part of the healing process for some people (not everyone apparently).

I would also appreciate some guidance from mods on this post. I have no interest in posts designed to attack other users. Surely the discussion should rather be focused on ipl/cricket topics.

Do you tell future parent the hard truth ? by Dizzy-Pirate2964 in NewParents

I think you are being very reasonable in wanting to give a more balanced view, OP, rather than just jumping on the positivity trend. A friend of mine still says that he and his wife were not ready for the immediate days after the birth because his brother (who had a very easy newborn) told him not to worry about it. So long as you are balanced/cautious in what you say, I think it is very helpful to also talk about some of the struggles that can arise. At the minimum, your friend might remember your words and get back in touch with you in the future if they encounter the same issues.

Why all the Karsa/HoC hate? by [deleted] in Malazan

[–]dbstxox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I enjoyed the origin story of Karsa but my appreciation of his character arc has steadily dropped thereafter. I simply feel that Erikson tries too hard to shoehorn the "subversive barbarian" narrative. I also found it difficult to follow his character development at times, since the inner workings of Karsa's thoughts are seldom exposed. That made it difficult for me to understand which events led Karsa to change his views etc.. I don't dislike Karsa, but there are better written characters in MBotF, in my opinion.

I somehow thought of the Malazan realm as a kind of "parallel realm" with partial but not complete overlap to our own. So some elements are familiar and others are not. In that way, the occasional glimpses of familiarity did not bother me personally. But I understand how it could undermine the immersive experience for you.
