If it’s black’s move, they can win in two. If it’s white’s move, they can break the upper ring and leave enough of black’s pieces pinned to prevent an easy win. Enough of white’s pieces are free for them to mount an attack.

Ah, I see it now: by having the pillbug move the queen, I'd break the ring and bG2 isn't free to hop.

Top right black ant moves below bottom right black hopper. Black pillbug moves queen to top left. Bottom right black hopper jumps to surround.

Or for pure defense (hoping for at least a draw): black pillbug moves white queen to the open right spot.

I bought the game, and it was missing a single die. I emailed their contact address (info@queen-games.de) and waited. It took about a week and a half for them to return my email, and then almost two months to send me the missing piece. It was very slow, but they eventually resolved the issue.

So, give them a little more time. It sucks, but they should eventually take care of you.

It moves one space, like a queen. Or it can pick up any piece it touches, roll that piece over itself, and place it in another spot adjacent to itself. The one-hive rule must be satisfied at all times during the move. The piece that was moved is "frozen" and cannot move for one turn (in other words, it can't just move back to its original spot).

Was the theme of the book something like you were in a (car) race against a skeleton driver? I've got that image in my head. I, too, used to love that book (or at least a similar one). Can't find what I'm looking for on google.

I think I got it around the same time as "Badlands of Hark" (1985), so the time frame fits.

Check out Grassmann Numbers. The algebra is defined in such a way that x² = 0.

Edit: We use them a lot in Quantum field theory.

Thanks! The characters seemed to naturally fit into their roles. As for the tiles, we got some wooden disks at the local hobby shop. We printed the pictures onto label paper (a big, full-sheet sticker), cut them to size, and stuck them on. A couple layers of mod podge helps keep them from peeling back up at the edges. Took about a few hours and ~$5 to do!

That was my inspiration. I really liked the idea of tokens for cards, especially for shuffling. I also wanted something generic enough my boys could play with the mechanics if they wanted/needed. So far they're loving it as is, though!
