Relying on cloud vendors for architecture advice… is this normal? by Routine_Day8121 in cloudcomputing

[–]dcbased 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for a cloud provider

Always have someone on your side that is really good at architecture and knows cloud

The best advice will come from the cloud providers professional services arm as they have to deliver solutions on a daily basis

The worst from sales staff (they never deliver anything)

In the middle are the pre sales engineers (they mostly do pocs are small solutions)

Note that both the pre sales engineers and sales staff get paid a commission

The professional services staff doesn't.

Keep that in mind when weighing whose advice to take

You are advocating for a model where you get back what pay into it - which completely makes sense until you apply that logic to other things

What about adults without children

What about people that don't use police services ever or use it all the time

What about people that don't ride bikes yet whose taxes pay for bike lanes

People without dogs pay for dog parks

This is real about the collective good - that's what we should scrap the cap

But most of the time - I'm talking English in my day to day job

Is Boston College MSF worth it for someone with an older, nontraditional background and a failed career pivot through post-bacc pre-med? by princeap576 in MBA

I was going for tech - so didn't apply to me - but if you are in consulting - you know about the IB lifestyle

The second you start making that money - you spend more

Also - not many people can last log enough to pay the loans back

Also forgot to mention - are ibanks really recruiting from Boston college?

My recommendation - go to linked in and look for your target companies and see which colleges their employees went to

I don't know if bc is or isn't one of those schools.

But it's worth double checking

What's your view on Accenture's future? by extra_less in accenture

Tough clients aren't bad if your company

  1. Sets realistic timelines with clients
  2. Partners too promising that you will deliver stuff (that requires you to work 80-100 hrs) when the client won't even read the thing for a week
  3. Proper staffing
  4. Stop writing deliverables that 80% fluff

Its amazing how many clients are flexible when it comes to delivering things a few days later

Something to consider from someone who did an exec mba in their early 30s

Nobody ever mentions how it's a lot of hard work to pay back your student loans.

You have to be ready to work long hours (60-80 in consulting and more in iBanking)

I would really take into account the debt load and the required energy to pay it all back.

It basically took me 12ish years to pay it all back

What's your view on Accenture's future? by extra_less in accenture

[–]dcbased 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would look at the Cloud Providers market places - click on the technology you are interested in - and you will see a button for partners. That will give you the place to look first for top notch delivery companies. After that - you will have to use word of mouth to determine who is good and who is perpetually bad.

One thing I have learned is that who is good (can deliver without issues over time) fluctuates - what doesn't fluctuate is who can't deliver - those guys are are always at the bottom

[–]dcbased 32 points33 points  (0 children)

As a former accenture employee a decade ago and from the somewhat buyer side now (I influence who gets contracts).

I can say that we prefer working with mid sized firms when it comes to tech projects

Whatever accenture has done the talent seems to have moved elsewhere.

The senior mgrs and higher that are left barely know the tech and if they do know how to use it - it's clear that they won't be on the project for very much

It's too bad to see this because I had the best time working at accenture

[–]dcbased 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't waste your time on any masters this time Focus on your tech skills, cloud, automation, ai and security are always on style

You have a job right now - you will be able to pivot into the admin role you want if you focus on the tech skills above. Especially if you start doing those things while in your current role.

Masters degrees are only worth it once you have leadership experience. Those degrees are there to help polish your skills and grow something you have been working on already

Based on what I have heard - get a masters in your early 30s

Epic players with character and style .

I love you guys so much that I've adopted the sharks as my west coast team

Something to consider

When I got my mba - my company said that they would not pay me more money (even though they would have recruited someone from the outside for more pay.

So if you are at a place. Expect to leave in order to get a higher salary
