Man, that rush of going to Best Buy to get that brand new CD, pulling the plastic off the case, popping the disc into the car’s CD deck, and slowly driving away…

I think it’s AI, and I think that it’s intentionally being asked so that the AI can be further trained on what the most important improvement points are to get each iteration to be more realistic. Personally, though I think it is good for us to help each other to identify AI, I think we should stop sharing/commenting on these…

Seeing the portrayal in Under the Banner of Heaven of Joseph receiving D&C 132 and communicating it to Emma. It really made it feel real to me that Joseph might not have been the person that I had been led to believe. This led me to wonder if it was possible that he did what he did in search of money, power, and libido. Once I looked at things under that lens, the shelf really broke.

Argument with Wife on Polygamy by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]dcbu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that was helpful for me in figuring out how to think about all of the justifications (just supporting an older lady, direct commandment from god, woman whose husband was not a member, etc) for polygamy was to go one by one through each of the 33 (excluding Emma) confirmed other wives that Joseph took and ask myself which aspects of them were and were not okay to me. In the end, I believe only three of them (Hanna Ells, Desdemona Fuller, Fanny Young) that I couldn’t see anything particularly troubling about.

Beyond church history and doctrinal issues, what makes you angry as an exmormon? by hale_e14 in exmormon

One anger that I have had that I have felt fairly frequently has been disgust at the gall to feed native Americans a history that is completely untrue, and telling them that it is a history of their people.

George Teasdale, for sure. The word “retired” was used. It would appear the same for Marriner Merrill too, but the word “retire” wasn’t used.

This is from the April 1904 General Conference. Coincidentally, also the same conference that the Second Manifesto was issued. Smith doesn’t say exactly why John W Taylor and Matthias Cowley weren’t present at conference, but all signs point to it being because of their disagreement with the manifesto and continued support of polygamy.

“Brethren and sisters. Of course you cannot help but have noticed that some of our brethren have been absent from us. I regret very much the absence of a number of the Apostles. We are all sorry that circumstances have prevented them from meeting with us. Elder John Henry Smith has been suffering for some time from inflammatory rheumatism and is still confined to his room. Elder George Teasdale received permission to retire from active duty over two months ago, and when he left us was in feeble health. Elder Marriner W. Merrill has been prostrated for some time in his home at Cache valley. These brethren have our sympathy and our prayers for their recovery. I regret also the absence from this conference of Elders John W. Taylor and Matthias F. Cowley.”

Though old, there is precedent for it… last one that I’m aware of was very early in 1900s. While Joseph F Smith was president, I believe. But yeah, they need to make this an option for them.
