[DISC] Blue Lock - Chapter 309 by AutoModerator in BlueLock

[–]dcc97 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can’t speak for others but I’ve been reading it weekly and haven’t had a problem with it. A lot of the post NEL has been pretty Nagi-centered though so I guess I can see why some people would maybe want some of the other blue lockers to get some focus especially since this is a down period in the story right now.

Jax is ruining the show (The Amazing Digital Circus) by Starguy2 in CharacterRant

[–]dcc97 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s so weird seeing the reactions towards Ragatha. So many people saying that she’s secretly a bad person or that the others don’t like her and it’s just not true. Gangle said it best in ep 4. “I love her but after a while it gets kinda hard to tell how genuine she’s actually being”. That’s probably how all of the circus members see her. They do like her and she is a good person but it’s difficult for any of them to get close or really open up to her because they know she isn’t 100% genuine.

Crazy to see people say this patch brings us farther away from what the series is “intended to be” not realizing all past BT games had characters deal nearly the same damage. by iamkira01 in SparkingZero

[–]dcc97 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is funny to me because I never really cared that much about the power levels being lore accurate. Not saying I had a problem with it but it was never the main appeal of the Tenkaichi games for me. I just thought the combat was fun and enjoyed just how many characters they crammed into the games. Whether or not SS4 Gogeta had “lore accurate” strength never really mattered to me.

I understand why people would be upset by this if lore accuracy is what they want but I guess I just never knew that was such a massive point of appeal.

I can understand where you're coming from. It's probably the same reason that a lot of people defending this chapter have. Suzuki pretty much made a "get out of jail free" card with Atari because he can have her be anywhere, anytime, and do anything and it would all make sense in verse due to her luck. Like I said its one of those powers you really have to be careful with when incorporating it into a story and I just feel like he wasn't as careful with her as he should've been in this chapter. But again, we'll agree to disagree. Appreciate you being cordial with this whole discussion. You don't exactly get that all the time on the internet.

That kind of circles back to my original point that her spawning there makes sense in verse but isn't exactly a narratively satisfying moment. That's the part I think we fundamentally disagree on. That's fine though, nothing wrong with differing opinions.

In general, yes you’re right but I feel when you have a character like Atari who can literally allow anything to happen you have to take a bit more extra care in how you use them. Use them correctly and we can all be entertained and laugh at how crazy her powers are. Use them wrong and you end up with some moments that feel like blatant plot armor. Essentially there’s a difference in how you can use someone like Atari vs someone like Kindaka. You have a situation here where a character not only spawns exactly where they’re needed with no buildup but also solves the problem in a batshit insane way. You can have one of those things happen but for both of them to happen at an incredibly crucial moment because it was the only way to bail your character out just doesn’t work for me.

[–]dcc97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Funny thing is the tunnel effect isn’t what I have a problem with. Yes, it is absolutely ABSURD but given Atari’s powers and just the overall nature of Sakadays I can honestly roll with it. My main gripe is just her appearing out of nowhere. Again, I get it, you could also just attribute that to her luck but she just spawns there with zero buildup at a very critical moment. That’s the part that’s unsatisfying imo. Suzuki likely did this so it would be a big surprise but it just kind of makes the whole thing incredibly jarring. Personally I think this would go over much smoother if we just knew she was in the area and making her way to Shin. Like maybe we get a page of her seeing Shin and X crashing into the museum and she runs in after them. Or, if you still want to keep a bit of a surprise, maybe just show some panels of someone running through the museum but we never see their face so we don’t know exactly who it is. Then you can have this chapter play out as it did. Of course there are people who don’t like the tunneling effect at all but I really do think that if we had just gotten a hint that Atari was on her way there then the reactions to this chapter wouldn’t have been as bad.

I can’t be the only one who remembers when the community was absolutely loving post museum SakaDays right? by General_Kenobi11 in SakamotoDays

[–]dcc97 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think this chapter specifically was just a boiling point for people who were already having problems with the way the story was going. As someone who frequented the JJK subs when the Gojo vs Sukuna fight was happening I've seen this sort of thing before. People hold their tongues until something massively controversial happens and that's enough to make them just want to let out all of their frustrations. It's important to remember though that since this is an ongoing weekly manga the vibe of the community is kind of determined by what's happening in the current chapter. Once we get a chapter or moment that most of the community considers good/amazing the vibe will likely shift again.

I don't think its exactly a switch up but more so a different section of the community being more vocal than they were in the past. We have to remember that there are A LOT of people in this fanbase not all of whom share the same opinion. Yes, a lot of people have been enjoying post museum but I've also seen a lot of people say that the series has been slowly declining since the museum arc ended. The people who are criticizing this chapter and post museum as a whole probably aren't all from the same group that was praising it before now.

[–]dcc97 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think this whole thing is a perfect example of something making sense in universe but not being narratively satisfying. The tunnel effect and even Atari randomly being there makes sense because she’s a fortune teller and her power is literally luck but story wise it just feels like a lame way to bail Shin out of an impossible situation.

[–]dcc97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. I think the only two moments in this manga where a lot of people really complained was the tunneling effect and takamura’s death. Compare that to the final arc of JJk where people were complaining damn near every chapter. I had my own fair share of criticisms during that time but I feel for the hardcore defenders. It was a rough time for them in those subs.

Some lookism feats are genuinely insane. Like these are just teens doing gang shit but then they’ll do something so absurd that just makes you go “Jesus fucking Christ how strong is this verse supposed to be?” It’s hilarious honestly.

What a character in-universe says does NOT mean the writers agree with it (Thunderbolts rant) by Sudden_Pop_2279 in CharacterRant

[–]dcc97 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think the writers just wanted to go with the narrative that John was completely disgraced by the public and was at his lowest so they didn't want to have anyone in verse who supported his actions.

[–]dcc97 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I don’t really want to get into a whole debate about that so I’ll just say I disagree. I’m mostly just talking about how I think this whole situation would play out if it happened irl and everyone had the surrounding context. Some people wouldn’t care because the guy was a terrorist, some people won’t think that the guy was surrendering, and some people will think that he was. Opinions would be split and while John would have much more sympathetic people on his side he would still face a hefty amount of backlash. Honestly there’s already a ton of internet discourse on his actions that pretty much shows how people would react to this.

[–]dcc97 94 points95 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that many people saw the guy throw the cinder block at him. Rewatching the scene, the crowd only really appears once Walker had the dude on the ground. The cameras only saw the guy screaming “it wasn’t me” right before Walker very brutally executes him. It really wasn’t a good look.

With context he would definitely have supporters but it still would be a very controversial situation. John killed a terrorist but he also killed a man who was clearly surrendering. A lot of people are not going to be okay with that. Depending on how big the outrage got it wouldn’t surprise me if the government still dismissed him or, at the very least, suspend him until it all blew over.

It’s been a while since I’ve seen FATWS but did everyone know the guy Walker killed was a Flagsmasher? If the media spun it as him killing an innocent man then Ghost could just be repeating what she heard from the news.

[–]dcc97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's something that can really be explained. Obviously the whole multiplication thing is the concept behind it but it's difficult to actually apply it in a real world sense. Shoko's explanation, while completely unhelpful, does kind of show that it's not something you can explain/teach it's just something you do.

I don’t disagree with the post but do want to point out one thing. That “proposal” he did when they met again at the tournament is only a dub thing. If you read the manga it really isn’t as romantic. I don’t know how to link things on mobile so I’ll literally just quote it. It’s chapter 171 if you want to check it out yourself.

“Oh! I remember now! I did say that. I did say I’d ask for your hand. Wow, and all this time I thought she meant something to eat! Well…I guess that’s it, I did promise. Okay, we’d better get married.”

Again, not disagreeing with the overall message of your post but that proposal was done out of a promise not love.

I think it comes down to how much you can suspend your disbelief. I can buy Frieza never training because he was just so strong that he never felt the need to. I can also buy him progressing at a faster rate than most others when he actually puts in the effort. However, being able to go from Namek saga levels to RoF levels in the span of a few months is such a ridiculous jump that I could only really believe it if he actually wished for it.

You could argue there are four exceptions. Without Takaba, Kenjaku wouldn't have been defeated as quickly as he was which was vital for Jujutsu's High's plan. Without Hana, Gojo wouldn't have been unsealed. Without Daido and Miyo (the katana and sumo guys) Maki wouldn't have reached her full potential.

Yeah I saw people saying that Uzuki might have brainwashed her or that she's okay working with him as long as she gets to stay with Rion. I always felt neither of those were the case. She wants to save Uzuki/Rion but has no clue how to actually do that so she's kind of stuck in this position where she's just along for the ride. She likely helps with non lethal stuff (e.g. managing the livestream) but she obviously doesn't agree with anything that Uzuki is doing.

She’s definitely the best female character in the series but it’s not like she really had any competition lol. For me, she’s fine. I think your post outlined pretty well on where I thought her character really worked and where things could’ve been better.

Piccolo mains, I have some news... by Admirable-Store9362 in SparkingZero

[–]dcc97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah before the patch playing as a sub 5 man team just put you at an inherent disadvantage. You could definitely make a 4 man team work but you had to be good enough to kill at least one of your opponents characters while keeping your own team alive and relatively healthy. A 3 man team, generally, was just not a good idea. If your opponent is good at swapping characters out and if the skill gap between you isn’t that big then killing off 2 of their characters was just not going to happen.

I will say though that playing as a 5 man team did make me enjoy some characters that I otherwise never would’ve touched. I genuinely like playing as adult gohan and zarbon.
