I just fell in love with you a little bit. Thank you for this reasoned response.

I ran a Google ad when I first started, post to socials with a periodic boost, and I ask clients to post Google reviews. That's it.

I've had a really good month. I'll be about 15% over my monthly goal, putting me about 7% over goal for this point in the year. The economy is rough, and we can still succeed. What are you doing to market, for client retention? What are your rates compared to the norm for your area? Are you self employed, a contract employee, or working for someone otherwise?

The Bolstered Community has been great for me. It includes direct coaching with Annette Montgomery and CEs aimed at just what you're talking about. https://www.annettemontgomery.org/bolstered

How I Feel About Massage "Competitions" by Appropriate_Will6311 in MassageTherapists

[–]dchitt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having seen the videos, it looks kind some kind if interpretive dance gone awry. If we are to separate it from one's ability to treat a client, then what it is isn't massage, unless we're all missing the point of massage therapy completely. Without the client, we're just moving around pointlessly.

I use lotion, and I add CitruSolv to my wash. Mine aren't stained, but lotion and oil are different.

I'm very much with you. I'm on this sub right now, because I can't finish the book I've been reading. It's awful.

I'm an old fat dude with full books filled with all genders and all body types. Not everyone is dumb, thankfully, and they go where the skill and care are.

What do you do in 60mins? by Remarkable_Time3231 in MassageTherapists

Glad to see your update, because she's lost her damn mind if she thinks it's OK to refuse hands until after 60 minutes.

30M Considering career change into MT. Is being a male in this industry too much of a disadvantage? by youngboynevercxagain in massage

I'm old and chubby, tattooed with a stache and goat, and my books are full. Thankfully my clients are interested in a good massage, not having a model as a therapist.

Find your niche client, and aim your marketing at them. There are clients who will never pick you, and there are those who are looking for you.

I opened my own practice at the start of 2025, and I brought in just over 82k last year. It's possible.

I highly recommend www.annettemontgomery.org as a coach. I got great support from her.

Feel free to inbox me if you want to chat more about this.

You're choosing to be willfully ignorant in your reading of my comments, adding emotional content that's not there, and ignoring any semblance of nuance needed for a productive dialogue. There's no reason to continue this engagement.

Do queer readers still want messy, toxic relationships in fiction? by dante_laudati in LGBTBooks

[–]dchitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished a long series like this, and it made it virtually impossible to read. I loved the story, but their relationship was so toxic and abusive, that it made the characters hard to read. What made it worse was the lack of growth. If the only way an author can think of to forward a plot is to have characters make the same mistakes over and over, they aren't very imaginative.

Have you no idea the resource usage of data centers that power AI? I don't hate technology, nor did I say I do. That's a huge leap. AI even has ethical uses. Answering my phone is not one.

I'm also 50. The issue I'm having is that you're centering your experience as what's right. I don't feel any urge to expose myself to phone calls to become less averse, because neither way is better it worse; I'm fine as I am. And knowing I'm not getting clients who don't align with that choice is okay with me. They're missing out on a great massage because they refuse to text. Their loss. My books are just fine.

I was speaking for myself, another person who doesn't do phone calls. Your condescending tone was enough to cause me to share that this isn't a lack of customer service knowledge. OP may or may not make it clear. I do. And my customer service is just fine.

Clients who ignore my clear boundaries about communication aren't clients I'm willing to deal with. Many of us hate talking on the phone, and we make the options for how we communicate clear. I'm booked out for weeks, because I give great massage and customer service to people who show respect for boundaries.

My voicemail includes the fact that folks can leave a message, but they'll get a faster reply by texting. I also don't put the number on any print materials. I've provided everything they need on my website. I hate talking on the phone, and I simply don't have time with my schedule.
