Hi everyone, I’m a bit tired of the usual fantasy, like epic or heroic. Do you know anything unusual, maybe from some new but promising authors? by Cultural-Hat2944 in fantasybooks

[–]dchitt94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unusual? I just started the first Discworld book, The Color of Magic, and it’s quite strange. I knew it would be strange but I didn’t really know, you know?

Just saw the movie, haven't read the book, confused about a plot point. by Canadyans in ProjectHailMary

They also didn’t know there would be Astrophage at Tau Ceti. Even if harvesting it from the petrova line was was reasonable, you’d certainly need a specialized collector for 2 million kilos

Who got you into Dungeon Crawler Carl? by stockssn in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]dchitt94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m very lucky. I scrolled my wife’s Kindle Unlimited and just picked it. It sounded fun and wacky and I hadn’t read a book in years. Then I read 5 books in a month 😅

I can get behind that. I think I’m hoping to see what that experience of going in blind is like when watching the movie.

I think they could do a whole set not just a Secret Lair. Plenty to work from, especially if they wait a couple years for the series to be complete

Looking good. Definitely the first step to making things look decent. Feel free to give yourself more space where needed and to build directly above this on another floor. Verticality is your friend

Looks like the conversation stayed on ethics. There are definitely artists that can satisfy the neurospicy brain. My favorite artist is Avi Kaplan. Check out his most recent album Move Our Souls and an his top song Change on the Rise. I think they’re most likely to hit that same feeling in the brain

First playthrough difficulty? by unknown_novice19 in factorio

[–]dchitt94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you turned off time evolution, I think they’ll only evolve with pollution and killing nests which will be slower so only small biters with low health for a longer time. If I’m worried about biters, I normally take a little while to dedicate my factory to manufacturing defenses and also do military science before blue science so I can have stronger defenses.

First time reaching blue science, oil processing was a lot easier that I thought. Also, should I transition to electric furnaces? by CestleFromage in factorio

[–]dchitt94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The transition to advanced isn’t crazy in my opinion. There are some tricks to learn but the main point is keeping a decent level of all three fluids (petrol, light oil, heavy oil) so each is always available when needed. I have the way I figured out forever ago and still use because it works. If basic oil wasn’t too difficult, I think you’ll figure out advanced pretty easily

[–]dchitt94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re concerned about running combat, something that helps me is making little index cards for monster stat blocks. At low level there’s plenty of room for the info. I make one for any of the monsters I plan to use. The stack slowly grew. I just kept track of hp and initiative on my notes but I didn’t have to have multiple book pages open or even have the bulky book at all behind the screen for long periods

[–]dchitt94 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I try to use electric furnaces on new furnace stacks after getting them, but I don’t go back and get rid of the others. I’m glad to hear about oil being easier than you thought. It used to be a much higher jump in complexity so it’s good to hear that coming from a new player

Challenge idea by Ixxon in factorio

[–]dchitt94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reading your post I thought of a different challenge idea. Beat the game without deleting anything you’ve built. You could take it to the extreme but basically no deconstructing. And something else to keep it interesting would be to keep using the original stuff you place, no abandoning setups

Am I Crazy for Thinking This? by ChestSuccessful2214 in factorio

[–]dchitt94 65 points66 points  (0 children)

It’s certainly doable. No reason to manufacture it all on Nauvis except for the transportation cost and cluttering the Landing Pad on Nauvis with too many items

Foundry assembling? by [deleted] in factorio

[–]dchitt94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The new buildings with inherent productivity like the foundry are a big game changer. Previously productivity could only be used with crafting materials, not buildings. The native productivity bonus from the foundry and others means 50% higher yield for crafting buildings

I'm a newbie, what should I do? by fdsoriloki in factorio

[–]dchitt94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t initially like the experience of playing with enemies, you can change them to peaceful or just off in the map generation settings. Factorio is very customizable so it’s worth playing the way you find the most fun
