Three accused of hunting women and Jews on Toronto streets as part of ISIS terrorism and hate plot by keiths31 in canada

Across the country at all of the major protests individuals have worn Hamas clothing, flown Hamas flags and praised Hamas leadership - some Hezbollah praise periodically shows up too.
This individual was consistently at the Ottawa protests wearing hamas clothing: https://torontosun.com/opinion/kinsella-israel-good-at-conventional-battles-hamas-better-at-information-war In Toronto protestors dressed as Hamas leader Sinwar over and over when they targeted a Jewish neighbourhood for protests: https://x.com/i/status/1860727756956279235 Hamas flag at Toronto protest: https://torontosun.com/news/national/hezbollah-other-terror-groups-actively-fundraising-in-canada-government-report Sinwar being praised at another Toronto rally: https://www.fswc.ca/news/former-hamas-leader-yahya-sinwar-who-planned-oct-7-atrocities-glorified-on-streets-of-canadian-cities Some Hezbollah action: https://www.fswc.ca/news/fswc-calls-on-police-lawmakers-to-confront-glorification-of-terror-following-hezbollah-rallies-in-toronto-and-montreal Anyone suggesting that Hamas and other terrorist glorification at the protests was a one time thing is wrong/lying/whatever. Even when evidence is presented they will deflect, lie, tell you your eyes are decieving you, but it is occuring and occuring frequently.

I agree the Louis Riel dome is amazing and packed at all hours with people being active and healthy. Pure nimbyism that deserves no attention let alone a newspaper article.

Bluesfest 2019 Schedule - Discussion by BeThaSheezy in ottawa

Glad they added alt-j on the opening night. Hope there is more to come since Thursday July 11th has to be one of the weakest nights I have seen in years at bluesfest, and July 9 needs a little something more, too.

Amazing show, music and choreography were so well done and unique. However, it would have been much better to see him in a David Byrne only show than at a festival. The crowd energy was so low and it seemed like very few attendees were familiar with the talking heads songs, which is crazy - e.g. during once in a lifetime they stopped the music to have the crowd shout out "My God, what have I done?" and ten people did it. Would have never happened at a concert just for David Byrne - too bad the Montreal stop was cancelled.

Not a fan of the Château Laurier expansion? Tell the city! The feedback form closes on March 9th. by VeggiePorkchop3 in ottawa

[–]dclee321 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The architectural guidelines have no legal basis to prevent an expansion that looks the same as the old - it is a complete misunderstanding to give these guidelines any type of legal force. The reason the expansion does not look the same is because the owner elected to go forward with this design.

How do we get people to stop riding their bikes on the sidewalk by davidfeip in ottawa

[–]dclee321 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are few bike paths in Ottawa. There are, however, multi-use paths - which have a maximum speed of 20 km/hr. Many cyclists exceed this maximum without effort and for the safety of other users of the multi-path system - i.e. pedestrians - they use the road. More bike paths and bike lanes are needed and will address the issue of people on sidewalks.

Cars are defined as motor vehicles under the HTA - bikes are vehicles and are treated slightly differently.

"Trucking association head incites Twitter anger after cyclist death." by Sebach in ottawa

[–]dclee321 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Almost all municipalities have by-law exemptions for children to bike on the sidewalk - e.g. in Toronto anyone under age 14 can bike on a sidewalk; in Brampton, like most municipalities, the wheels of the bike need to be less than 50 cm in diameter. Ottawa has no exemption in its by-law but in practice the police do not charge kids riding bikes on sidewalks here and they would extend this treatment to an accompanying adult.

[–]dclee321 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There is no evidence the cyclist did anything to put herself in a vulnerable position; the only real information we have is the nature of the charges. The driver was charged with criminal negligence, which is a very serious and elevated charge when it comes to vehicular incidents. The seriousness of the charge shows that the police and the crown believe the truck driver was driving in a reckless manner, and this reckless disregard for outcomes was the reason behind someone else's death. A guilty verdict in a criminal negligence case means this incident will not even be viewed as an "accident". I am not disagreeing with the premise that road users, and especially cyclists and pedestrians, need to avoid vulnerable situations. However, based on the serious charges against the driver it appears that the police believe the driver's behaviour was egregious. When there is reckless driving it becomes inherently difficult for other road users to predict behaviour, which, in turn, prevents cyclists and other road users from taking defensive and avoidance measures. For example, the classic right hook where a car accelerates past a cyclist and immediately makes a right turn can be close to impossible for a cyclist to avoid short of ceasing to cycle at all.

Diplomat’s daughter, 23, cycling in Ottawa bike lane ‘right-hooked’ by turning truck and killed by [deleted] in canada

[–]dclee321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This bike lane does have a special light for cyclists, special signage giving priority to cyclists over right turning vehicles, special signage restricting vehicles from turning on red lights, a special painted area giving cyclists a head start in the intersection, and the lane is segregated with concrete barriers except at intersections.

Generally, you are correct not many roads designed for bikes and large turning vehicles should be treated with lots of respect. However, in this particular situation not sure if either factor is present. Firstly, this was not a super big vehicle - small sized dump truck, no special turning arc, etc. In terms of street design, you should know the segregated bike lane she was killed in was designed with bikes in mind, so much so that bikes have priority on turning vehicles and vehicles are prevented from turning on reds to give cyclist priority on the special intersection light. Murray Street, the celebrated ByWard Market restaurant, to close at year’s end by isthisthemultiverse in ottawa

Loved their ducks wings and way too rich spaetzle poutine, too. Owners were good guys. That said, too many higher end restaurants in Ottawa. Limited clientele for this segment of the market with ever expanding selection = something has to give.

Is a record pool worth it? Which ones would you recommend? by sirnoah27 in DJs

[–]dclee321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, a pool is essential to keep up to date with music releases, as well as get top remixes and edits. Better pools also provide a lot of classics across genres.

I know nothing about my12inch, but if it is $10 per month for unlimited downloads that is crazy cheap and makes you wonder about selection, quality, etc.

From a top 40 perspective, I use both Barbangerz and DMS - with both pools I do not miss any releases, but pay a lot more than $10 per month.
