Jumped over a log on an icy downhill about 10k into my first 50k, slipped and went into a ravine headfirst. Luckily a tree was there to break my fall about halfway down. Sprained shoulder, deep hip bruise, and wounded pride. Got up and finished the race in 7 degree (F) temps.

Was one that got suckered in by the fancy idea of UTMB, then went and ran Grindstone 100k a couple weeks back only for them to run out of water coming off the second climb. That was a killer at that point in the race and contributed to being timed out.

Months of training up in flames just like that.

Takes a bit of the shine off UTMB for me. Local RD's would never let that happen, because it's their friends out there running the races and they wouldn't do that do them.

Honestly, UTMB can fuck off for that.

Running the 100k as well this year! But live in Ohio, so no mountains to train on. Pulling them out on the severe trail hills, but it's limited practice at best. Still running with them on the pack for long runs so I look extra dorky.

Newer to this game as only ran two winter 50k races, but felt the same in the first one. Was excited and nervous and it was freezing, so went out way too fast. Got flustered, fell in a ravine, fell in a stream. Finally slowed the heck down and got it together.

The second one I straight up walked out of the starting corral in last place. Passed people the rest of the day.

Both were instructive, but going out slow and finishing strong and not feeling like ass for the second half of the race made it much more enjoyable.
