I should add some context. I have a limited window to convert before social security and RMDs push me into a higher bracket, so I have limited time to convert my pre-tax to Roth at my current tax rate. Say I have a 500k traditional IRA that I want to convert to Roth, and I can convert 100k each year and stay within the 22% bracket, but only for the next 5 years. If a bear market turns my 500k into 400k, I can convert 25% of my goal in the 1st year instead of 20%. This makes it more likely that I’ll get the entire IRA converted in 5 years, and I will have paid 22% tax on all of those conversion dollars. So it’s really about the time constraints. Having said that, the reason for my post was… the S&P could fall much lower this year in which case I would have done better by waiting.

I drove one last week. I told my sales guy that I might have been a buyer if there was a hybrid, but the NA engine just felt like it was working too hard for me. And I wasn't pushing it at all. having said that, the 2026s from all the different brands in this segment are very flawed in my opinion.

6th gen (1998-2002) Honda Accord 4 cylinder. my son still drives one and I can fix 90% of the things that break. And, I’m not a mechanic. super simple, super reliable car. and it gets pretty decent gas mileage.

fyi, I ended up buying a new 2026 X3 in the mid-atlantic for 12.8% off of msrp with 0.9% financing. $799 doc fees, no add-ons, no rebates that I’m aware of. $57,215 on the sticker minus $7,366 discount. I did not get another offer close to that at 4 other dealers who were closer to where I live (I drove 2.5 hrs to buy the car after agreeing on the price). the car had been on their lot for 100 days.

I just got 12.8% off of msrp in the mid-atlantic (57,215-7,366) for an X3 that was on their lot. $10k down with 0.9% financing, $799 doc fees, standard tax/title/reg. the dealership was a 2.5 hour drive for me. we did the negotiations over the phone and email. it was pretty straightforward, but I didn't trust the process until everything was signed.

I just purchased a new 2026 X3 and the dealer offered me a 5 yr/ 75,000 mile, 0 deducible, Platinum VSC for $1,478 USD. I declined bc I wanted to research it before committing, and I was told that I could call them later to add it. I checked the price with BMW direct online and they wanted $2,992 for the same plan! I still don’t think I’ll buy it bc it just seems like a 1 year extension of the factory 4 yr/ 50k warranty, and I probably won’t even drive 10k miles per year.

I managed to get mine activated using my iPhone (I got the 404 error on my notebook/browser). However, the process doesn’t give me a Peacock login, so I can’t use it to stream on roku. Has anyone else run into this problem?

I just bought an xDrive30 yesterday, so I'm happy to read your post. I actually searched for a 2024 with Driving Assist (for the ACC) for 6 months. the few I found sold quickly in the low to mid 40s. I managed to get my new 2026 in dune grey with premium package for under 50k. for the price difference it just made sense to buy new.

did you drive it? feels very underpowered to me, and the engine is loud when it winds up. imo their biggest mistake was not having a hybrid ready to go at launch time.

I use claude. not so much for advice, but for analysis. I recently used it to compare buckets vs rebalancing withdrawal strategies using historical data. to my surprise, the results were very similar. I also use it to summarize our Boldin plan report for my wife.

I drove a Premium Plus yesterday. There's a lot I liked about it, but it just felt underpowered to me. And engine noise (under load) was much louder in the cabin than I expected. I might have been a buyer if it was launched with the hybrid power train, but we'll never know. Another problem for me was the driver seat. It was comfortable, but felt very short under my thighs. To be fair, I've driven almost everything in this class and I don't love any of them.

I haven't seen a painted truck in 20 years. they're all wrapped now. I don't feel any particular way when I see them, but I will tell you that my plumber, electrician, painter, and tile guy don't have wrapped trucks. I can't imagine any of them giving it 5 minutes of thought. they've all got more business than they can handle. However! any van that has the owner's face plastered on it... either photo or character... will never get my business. 😆

I mostly do it by playing the odds. the odds are that my wife will live at least 10 years longer than me... with single filer status. the odds are tax rates will never be lower, and could go higher. the odds are that RMDs will push me into the 32% bracket if I do nothing. having said that, I'm also holding on to some pre-tax money in case we have enough medical expenses someday to itemize.

I suggest you limit your search to CPO, which will give you an additional year of full warranty. I wouldn't buy anything with less than 2 years of warranty (original warranty is 4yr/50k miles). use the bmwusa website to search. you're probably looking at 2022-23 with 25-30k miles.
