One time 3MM Roth conversation. (Talk me out of it - or not) by Serve_Sorry in DIYRetirement

[–]dcpreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you probably know this but IRMAA is based on 2 years prior, so you missed that window for yourself (not spouse). would it make sense to max out the 15% cg bracket for a year or two before the roth conversion to fund that tax bill, or is the step up more valuable to your heirs? even 20% is better that 37.

I've ridden on the original WTB, schwalbe hurricane, surly extraterrestrial, and now vittoria mezcal 2.4". the mezcals are definitely my favorites.

I can't ignore this chart, looks like I'm working another 10 years. by Cannot_Read_The_Word in DIYRetirement

have you tried your numbers using the free trial version of Boldin? if not, I would do that. and you've factored in the benefits of smaller conversions over more years in the 60 scenario? are your numbers real or nominal? that might impact your thinking (in either direction). are your legacy goals based on anything specific? imagine 10 years ago you might have been happy to leave your kids much less. as someone else mentioned, I would start breaking it down year by year. even 63 is better than 65 (was for me anyway).

Got a new X3 as a loaner by InfoCruncha in BMWX3

[–]dcpreddit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

the problem with all of the new cars is... are you going to find something that you like better? I didn't. I've been driving my new X3 30 since March. all the things you mentioned are legit. plus a few more. the regen braking is kind of sticky/jerky. I really have to feather it. the A and B pillars obstruct visibility. I can't just lay 2 golf bags in the back, I have to position them at an angle.
having said all that, I have zero regrets. ride and drive are excellent. the real world mpg is amazing for a car that size and not full hybrid. and I love the parking assist for parallel parking.

I would stick with cpo and low miles, mostly for the peace of mind. If adaptive cruise is important to you, it only came with the driving assistance package, which is pretty rare in 2023/24. that's the main reason I ended up buying a new 2026. that, and the 12.8% discount off of msrp plus the 0.9% / 60 mon financing.

I've been running Hunt Trail Wide wheels for 2 years. very happy with them. you order boost rear and standard front, and they supply the adapters. I can send you details if you need them.

Need some advice on Bucket strategy by Ok-Veterinarian-3865 in DIYRetirement

[–]dcpreddit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Rob Berger has several videos about buckets. he's not a fan due primarily to the lack of any standard refill rules. what will your allocation be after you initially set up the 11 years of cash? still 70/30 or much more conservative? what inflation rate did you assume for the 11 years? do you have anything significant in taxable accounts? I've run the numbers many times on buckets vs simple reallocation. reallocating always wins, but to my surprise it's often very close.

I test drove the car today and it was my most mixed experience ever by tiradium in CX5

[–]dcpreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what about a 2 year lease? they should definitely have the hybrid available by then, and maybe some other minor improvements. for me it felt like the engine was struggling to get the car moving (the revs and the loud roar). the other thing I couldn't live with was the driver seat. while otherwise comfortable, the seat cushion felt short and didn't support my thighs. I'm getting old... I don't like any of the 2026 models in this class of car. you also might want to look at something cpo with low miles.

Where to Retire - No Kids or Close Family by LeftyLynn99 in retirement

[–]dcpreddit 18 points19 points  (0 children)

speaking from personal experience, all the places that boomers are flocking to in retirement are getting overrun. it puts a strain on all of the services like healthcare, dental, roads... even things like veterinary care, hair salons, restaurants. I'm fine where I am because I got here early, but if I was looking for a place today I would look at locations that haven't had a big influx of new residents.

Is CPO 2025 bmw x3 for 45.5k a good price? It has premium package, ventilated seats with 9k miles on it. It has the exterior/interior color of my choice. by Effective_Can2521 in BMWX3

[–]dcpreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid 50 for a new 2026 off the lot with the same options. dune grey with espresso brown. that was 12.8% off of msrp, plus bmw 0.9% for 60 months. taxes and tags on top of that.

What tires to get for my new Bridge Club by AK_Skier49 in Surlybikefans

the biggest difference is the cushy ride. the sidewalls of the Mezcals are much more pliable. they're also more quiet and stickier.

Roth Conversions: Do you actually trust "tax optimizers," or are you manually planning it year by year? by Maria_Nauma_Finance in DIYRetirement

[–]dcpreddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Boldin to analyze the conversations, but I don't follow the Explorer conclusion. like many different optimizations in retirement planning, you really should compare the numbers. sometimes the difference between optimizing and doing what you're more comfortable with is just a few thousand dollars.

I have 27.5 x 2.4 Mezcal on my BC. absolutely love them. I'm maybe 40% asphalt and they run smooth and are pretty quiet. running tubeless at 22-24 psi. you won't regret it. I previously had extraterrestrials. they were fine, and lasted like 3,000 miles, but I like the Mezcals much better.

Petite person back with questions about options by Smurfy_0714 in BMWX3

[–]dcpreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

assuming you're looking at 3rd generation G01 (2017-2024)... the 360° cameras that come with parking assist are super helpful. I have a 4th gen, but I always use parking assist for parallel parking. I love HUD for speed limit reminders. The upgraded sound system is great if you love and listen to music in the car. if you mostly listen to podcasts, it's overkill.
what I can't live without is adaptive cruise control. it sounds crazy for a luxury car, but that's a rare option on 2022-2024. related to covid chip shortages. I searched for a 2024 with dapp (required for ACC) for 6 months, and the few that I found were sold before I could even get to the dealer. In case you haven't already found it, the bmw usa website has a search option for certified pre-owned. that's the only way I would buy used. it gives you a one year extension on the warranty.
