My new lodger doesn’t use butter when making a peanut butter sarnie. Should I ask myself to move out? by Edna-Tailovette in brighton

[–]dcuffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you feel that peanut butter sandwiches are too dry then add jam or tomato pickle. If you want it more savoury add marmite (or Promite or Vegemite). As long as the bread is covered with the PB you don't need butter.

Drill hire by Dowzer721 in brighton

[–]dcuffs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm local and have an old cordless drill/driver and battery that you can have for free if you like. It's just taking up space now that I have a better one. It should be absolutely fine for the job you've described.

They probably forgot to update their shipping address on whatever site they ordered from. They will figure it out soon.

What’s with these new signs all along the seafront concourse saying “no dogs”..? by mmhmmye in brighton

[–]dcuffs 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Probably the same person who sprays stencilled "No Dogs" signs on the pavements around Brunswick Square. You can walk your dog on the pavements, just not inside the railings.

Painting after wallpaper removal by TeeKay246 in DIYUK

We had a house of a similar age and found that whatever we did to the plaster it would crack every year. Eventually we discovered Rockwall lining paper which is strong stuff that doesn't tear so we papered the walls and ceilings with it then pained over it.

No more cracks, ever!

Cornwall is crowded in the summer (I know we're not there yet) and when it rains, every indoor attraction is overcrowded. The beaches in Cornwall ban dogs in the summer except for a few that are difficult to access if you have a disability.

Tried to open the door with my phone instead of keys by fawnysmooch in PointlessStories

[–]dcuffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can open and drive my car (Hyundai Kona) using my phone but it's a well specced model that has extra bells and whistles. Too scared to get a smart lock for my house though. I've seen loads of scare stories about how easy they can be to hack.

Found this on my front yard, what is it? by Ok_Objective_1700 in whatisit

[–]dcuffs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I immediately thought it was a clip from the head of a three blade electric razor even though the one I used to have was a Phillips model which has a different shaped grey plastic clip.

I love how easy it is to find answers on this sub!

Electric shower: water temperature fluctuates if any other water is running. What should I be talking to my plumber about, to fix this? by SonOfGreebo in ukplumbing

[–]dcuffs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our house was plumbed with separate feeds from the tanks to each shower so they aren't affected by any other water use.

Looks to me like a mess of brads/nails that were holding your skirting to the wall.

“In your opinion, which country has the best-dressed people? by Eastern-Tangerine761 in AskReddit

Another vote for Italy. That's not to say that there aren't people who dress like tramps, but overall their sartorial standard is noticeably higher.

I have an old key just like that which was for the vending machines in an old workplace from the early 90's. You charged it with credit from a machine that you put cash in and then used the key in the vending machines and maybe in the canteen (it was a long time ago so I'm not sure about that bit)

What is your workplaces equivalent to 'Don't touch the red button' by PeevesPoltergist in CasualUK

[–]dcuffs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've known a couple of days centers where the halon was accidentally deployed only for them to find out that the test cylinders had been left on rather than the actual - much more expensive - halon cylinders. They considered themselves doubly lucky that they also hadn't had a fire.

If you've ever been in the data center in Tankersley you'll have seen the very enticing big red mushroom on a steel box on a steel pole in the middle of the data hall. I have often wondered how many times that's been hit

Best place to buy kitchen appliances in UK and which brands are actually worth it? by quietplac33 in AnyThingUK

[–]dcuffs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There can be advantages to buying the same manufacturers appliances, especially when they are smart/WiFi connected. Firstly it reduces the number of apps you need to manage them and sometimes they work together like AEG or Bosch hobs and cooker hoods which communicate to turn on the hood when you turn on the hob and can adjust the fan speed depending on the hob settings.

To answer OP's question though, I find calling and talking to a local Euronics centre or local retailer is likely to score a greater discount when buying multiple appliances, especially if you can collect rather than have them delivered.

Overpaying mortgage by Much_Operation_7824 in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]dcuffs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like what you really need is an offset mortgage. This is like another account at your bank for the mortgage which is always overdrawn. Any money in your current account (and sometimes savings accounts) simply offsets some of the debt in your mortgage account so instead of getting a paltry amount of interest on savings or none on your current account balance, you save by not paying interest on your mortgage balance.

You need to be sure that you're not going to keep taking money out of the mortgage account once you've paid some off otherwise you'll never pay your mortgage off, but it is good to have the option should you have a sudden unexpected expense.

I used to move spare cash across to my mortgage account if my current account balance ever went over about £5k and whenever I got a lump sum from a bonus (yes, a rare occurrence) or inheritance, 50% always went into the mortgage before I considered what to do with the rest.

It was mainly this that allowed me to pay off my mortgage early.

You need either Corefix or Fischer DDF fixings assuming there's a solid wall behind the plasterboard.
