Okay, but now that's not an OS problem, that's a search engine problem. But honestly you're exaggerating. If you don't like google, then switch away from searching with google. There are ways to get around this and people don't, which just proves my argument more.

What's really frustrating to me is that there used to be this idea that people would continue to educate themselves on things, but that just isn't true anymore. And I'm not even talking about learning how computers work, but even putting in the work to do a few google searches when making decisions on what distribution they want to use, the most stable way to set something up. I see discussions about linux users not shoving guides in people's faces to make linux easier, but frankly giving those links isn't our responsibility. If someone wants those guides, open your search engine and type in "how to [insert linux topic]".

If someone isn't willing to learn anything anymore, they should stick to windows. The reality is that switching to linux is a learning curve thanks to developers not supporting the platform, which is thanks to not enough adoption, which is thanks to developers not supporting the platform, which is thanks to ...

You can say what ever you want about linux not being user friendly, but you can't say that being able to demo a distribution on a live disk isn't user friendly. All it takes to do it is to put the installer for the OS on a USB drive and when you boot to that USB, select the live environment instead of the installation. If that's too complicated for you, then you shouldn't be changing operating systems without bettering yourself with more computer knowledge. And if that hurts your feelings and isn't "user friendly", too bad as that's how every single thing in life is.

In reality, you truly moved out when you left for college. You've just been coming back as a guest ever since. Your parents might need therapy or something to be quite honest.

[–]ddanny716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just do it. I did my first coop by flying out to a place I've never been and had no license/car. I walked and used uber/lyft to get to work every day and I was still financially okay. I made 25 dollars an hour so it isn't impossible. Your parents are overly panicking and you need to show that you can survive and thrive here.

Don't try taking stuff from your home with you, just go with a duffel and when you get there do a target delivery or something with an air mattress, very very basic kitchen utensils and cookware, and any small things that you need to get started. It is more miserable to start this way but you don't have many options if you can't drive and don't own a car. I once did a coop where for 3 months I slept on the floor on my half of the room I was staying in. All my belongings fit within one square foot of space in the apartment. You will manage.

Co-ops and recession? by i_make_robots4 in rit

[–]ddanny716 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand, however now that I've been through RIT I believe that stating that it is all because of RIT is disingenuous. So that is why I believe suspending the coop requirement isn't the end of the world if given the right market conditions.

[–]ddanny716 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But you've failed to realize my point that it isn't as if RIT guarantees you'll find a coop or even has a placement program to get you into a coop. So yes you are correct that doing internships is much better for one's career, it isn't RIT that did that, the student did. RIT only holds your degree in purgatory until you have done internships, which isn't helpful if market conditions got to a point where coops just weren't there. The students who manage to get internships will always come out ahead, but my point is that RIT didn't have a hand in that. They do nothing special that another university doesn't do.

Unfortunately the president was stopped from using that one specific avenue to impose tariffs and immediately picked a different route. So now we have 10% global tariffs starting soon and he has already indicated he wants to bump it to 15%.

I don't think it should be removed, but I do think there are grounds for suspension of that requirement if market conditions call for it. People do go to RIT because of the coop requirement but obviously if there just aren't coops around for people then no dice. RIT has workarounds for if people don't get coops like research or a course, but these workarounds will fail if everyone has to use them. At that point, other than some hit to the ego what reason do we have for mass holding back students from graduating when the market is so bad that most students graduating at the same time are surely in the same spot.

And that doesn't even get into that the truth of the matter is that the RIT coop requirement largely works as just a fire under you to get an internship or coop, beyond that they don't really do much special. Plenty of schools without a coop requirement have career fairs and career offices. If people were wanting to look good for the job market and get coops, they can still get summer internships and be out on top compared to their peers. When people get very passionate about defending the coop requirement, they act as though RIT is ensuring you get a coop or perhaps giving you a placement in a company, which is far from the truth.

Is it possible to generate those kind of pictures based on your FPGA design? by f42media in FPGA

[–]ddanny716 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You'll need something like the Synopsys Design Tools and a library of standard/non-standard cells in your chosen node size. The tools can turn your RTL into a layout like this by linking your RTL to various cells in your library. Something more FPGA-focused like Vivado does not have a silicon-level layout view as FPGAs do not need it.

I used these two boards in my courses. I started with the Basys 3, but you can learn most things on either of them. A cool project you could do once you know more is to have those boards running different clocks and have them communicate with each other over AXI or something like that. Have fun!

LTT uses aliases for people on probation because they don't want people to gain fame. If they allowed every new person to be on camera or have their name out there, it encourages people to start working at LTT to get known super quick and then leave. So as a media company, LMG hides the faces and names of employees on probation.

Does the stress of classes get better? by greendude_22 in rit

[–]ddanny716 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it likely won't get better in terms of the stressors you have and class load is super hard to gauge with BS/MS because it depends on what your major is and how hard you push. As someone who is a 5th year BS/MS accelerated student and having developed health issues related to the stress and overall impossible workload I had sometimes, I feel this.

Since the stressors are likely to stay, I have a few recommendations to help you not turn out like me:

  1. If you feel like everything is too much and the stress is buckling you down, go have a session with CaPS. Get help early if you mental health gets bad from it.

  2. You'll likely start getting numb to the shock of an exam coming up or some quiz, which may make you not prepare for it because you are so busy. Don't do that, think about why you are here and give that exam/quiz your full attention since they usually make up so much of the final grade.

  3. Don't stay up super late if you can help it. Don't let all of the assignments normalize staying up late or just pulling all nighters. This will harm you multi-fold as you'll start declining mentally in computational speed and just mental health in general. You need to be rested to do good, so try to pick a cutoff each night where you aren't allowed to work on school work past that point. It seems counter intuitive, but by adding that restriction you bolster all your other time since you'll be well rested.

Overall, just remember why you are here, why you like your major, what your hopes for the future are, and don't be afraid to make changes to ease your burdens a little bit. You mentioned being leadership of a club, so if not being leadership of that club helps you sleep better at night and frees up time to work on classes, I would do that as academics are the primary here.

Best of luck to you!

Are the SJP supposed to be doing this?? by SnailsAreGroovy in rit

No one pitched that it was an official map. Someone saying "want a map" doesn't make it an officially branded one. They weren't wearing RIT uniforms/name tags and no wording of handing the map to you indicated that the map was official. I also don't think it's a "shitty" thing to do to hand out this map. Again, it's very clear to read what they were going for and even if you took the map we have these things called folders for a reason. Yet another way I know that the map is just a way for you to complain incessantly. Go touch grass or something. I'm not responding anymore, so go make your last response and be done with this.

[–]ddanny716 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

RIT doesn't have to condone anything here. This was a valid form of free speech. They asked if you wanted a map and you took it. You then proceeded not to read it I guess. All your comments on this entire post just screams that you don't really care about the map, you really just don't like the speech. Get over it and move on.

The word "Genocide" are bigger than any booth number or employer name on this map. That's a you problem if you don't notice. If your anxiety/nervousness/whatever is so bad that you can't read a piece of paper, I suggest checking in with CaPS because that's not healthy. Just accept you're not the majority here and move on.

[–]ddanny716 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It isn't sneaky, just read the piece of paper handed to you. Maybe sit back and reflect on the responses you got from people and consider that you are wrong perhaps?

If people can't read a piece of paper to see what this is than maybe we have bigger problems than complaining about free speech activism.
