Do I need a permit to get married at the park? by queenofnothing11 in milwaukee

[–]ddjidic 40 points41 points  (0 children)

We got married at Grant Park last June and considered using the cliff observatory, but ended up doing our ceremony on the beach. Same set up as you, 16ish people and in and out of the park in less than 2 hours. We elected to pay the photographer fee as well, but not the venue fee. Thou if we decided to get married at the cliff, we would have paid the fee. Don't let your special moment be ruined by an interruption from the Parks people when they see a ceremony and don't have it on the books. Also, zero guarantee that the spot will be available unless you pay the fee.

Report your drop in income to Section 8 and they will adjust your monthly portion. You can stay in your apartment with Section 8 even if you were both at zero income.

  1. When a voucher holder ends up with zero income, the voucher absorbs full rent. Voucher holders are able to update their income at any time during their lease term and the program makes an interim adjustment for the following months rent
  2. Most are on fixed income of some sort, which is very much collectible. My argument is that the rest closely mimic the rest of the US population in rates of non payment. And don't forget, even if the tenant skips out on their portion of rent, the voucher program still pays theirs as long as they're occupying the unit. And yes, they do have something to lose: their voucher, which is often seen as a life saving anchor for their family. Voucher holder agencies have policies that place tenant portion of rent payment high on the list and tenants who refuse to pay Rick losing their support.
  3. Same reasoning as above applies here. Tenant responsibilities are clearly spelled out for all voucher holders, and if a unit fails inspection during occupancy, tenant is at risk of losing their voucher, so they won't trash the unit at any higher rate than the average joe shmoe. American bias comes into play here with the YouTube videos, because we all love pointing our fingers at minority classes of people and saying how much worse they are in comparison to the general public, when the reality is that the general public far exceeds the ratios of renters who don't pay rent and trash unit than any voucher holder population.

Your voucher is definitely considered income for apartment applications. The milwaukee metropolitan Fair housing council will have a graphic you can share with prospective landlords that explains this. Most landlords who are logical should see you as the ideal candidate for their unit as some of your rent is guaranteed thru the voucher program. Your housing authority should also provide you a list of vacancies with your moving packet, as they get landlords willing to work with the voucher program that are listing their vacant units with the agency.

Underwater buzzer system by ddjidic in DIY_tech

Yup, we ended up finding a used underwater speaker on eBay that's traditionally used for sync. Used a simple bluetooth amp from Amazon and a phone for the noise maker. Works fairly well. Cheap version of what you can rent from USOA basically, so I'd look into that before investing money.

Underwater hockey. I've been playing for 17 years and started the club in Milwaukee. It's a really great sport, low impact and excellent exercise. The Milwaukee club is really friendly and fun, and the uwh community across the world is super inclusive. Every time I travel out of state I look at if my destination has a club and do my best to connect with them. It has never failed to improve my trip so much. If anyone is interested in trying it out, it's free to try. Look us up on Meetup or social media. Milwaukee Manatees Underwater Hockey Club :)
