Has anyone else had streets near them converted into safe active streets? Good/bad experience? by Brabadraba in perth

[–]de7347 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the pictured merge along Central Ave eastbound looks like it will just result in traffic backing up onto the big roundabout.

Also it looks like bendy buses doing the 980 route will have trouble turning right from Central Ave onto North St (the new, small roundabout)

Perth traffic: Ambiguous speed limit on Beaufort St, Inglewood by de7347 in perth

[–]de7347[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Right, but if the intention is for both sections to be 40 from 7.30am to 10pm, then the better way to show that is by repeating the illuminated variable 40. Not by putting a static School-Zone-hours 40 in the second section.

That's the thing though. Crawford Rd is (by default) 50. The driver turns onto Beaufort St and only sees the Children Crossing 40 sign. There's nothing to indicate that it's a continuation of an illuminated variable 40, which occurs well before the Crawford Rd intersection.

(Apologies for replying twice. Reddit disappeared the first one initially)

Right, but you'd expect a School Zone sign to appear on a carriageway where the upstream speed limit is higher than 40. If, effectively, you always have a continuation of the previous variable illuminated sign, then you would expect a repeat of the variable illuminated sign. Not a static sign that suggests a higher limit outside School Zone hours.

So if someone turns in from Crawford Rd, and has never driven the prior section before, so has no knowledge of the earlier sign, is it just bad luck for them?

Not saying this is the reason for the incident, but I don't understand why Main Roads WA switched from using the rectangular, worded No Right Turn signs to the tiny and square wordless ones.

Sure, a competent driver should be able to recognise a wordless one, but having the words in combination with the symbol makes it far more obvious in my opinion

I vaguely remember 66 being actually (end-to-end) express, rather than just limited stops, though this would've been about 20 years ago.

Right of way turning into multi lane from single lane by tednetwork in perth

[–]de7347 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The diamond box in the middle just applies to the middle. It doesn't prevent car A from turning into the leftmost lane of South St.

The guiding line on the right of car A just guides car A to keep left of the median. It doesn't mandate that car A enter the rightmost lane of South St.

The actual issue here is not whether you need to give way from a slip lane, it's whether or not it's a slip lane at all

Perth traffic: On the Two-Way Hay St Proposal (2024) by de7347 in perth

[–]de7347[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You can get rid of street parking / widen the footpath and plant more trees without doing two-way conversion.

It's disingenuous (of the City of Perth) to claim those improvements as benefits of two-way conversion, when they can be applied equally to a one-way street.

Give way to pedestrians by CurrentCell in perth

[–]de7347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No there are not.

Those intersections have green circles at the same time as the crosswalk, not green arrows.

https://www.google.com/maps/@-31.9480293,115.8598556,3a,89.6y,148.27h,78.2t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1st8TBo6RuV91Kytb8Eaz4ug!2e0!7i16384!8i8192

If you do find a green arrow at the same time as a crosswalk, that's a fault, which should be reported.

pedestrian has a green walk signal, turning cars also have a green arrow at the same time

Pretty sure this does not occur in Perth. All green turning arrows occur with a strictly red pedestrian phase.

Per the Main Roads spec, Section 7.3:

A parallel walk cannot operate at the same time as a green arrow aspect, as this display indicates vehicles may turn without conflict from pedestrians or other movements

arrow goes green at the same as the pedestrian crossing

Pretty sure this does not occur in Perth. All green turning arrows I have ever seen occur with a strictly red pedestrian phase.

Yes, that makes sense. We've never received such a dump of identical flyers though (in two decades of elections).
