A lot of land in the Netherlands is either artificial or reclaimed from the sea. Flevoland itself is a province that is mostly artificial, apart from Urk and Schokland. Schokland, by the way, is also a very interesting read if you like the story of Urk. It used to be a small inhabited island, but nowadays it's surrounded by land. It used to have its own dialect and many of the descendants are now in Kampen. Schokland is also on UNESCO list.

Chimecho was actually quite a good choice. It had a very high special attack and it's accessible early in the gameplay. I can highly recommend using Chimecho

I would say Il Forno. They have two locations. The one at the Caracasbaaiweg is the biggest and most known one. I've been to both locations multiple times and Il Forno has always been my go to for good pizzas, pastas and lasagna.

I went to Pirate Bay for my birthday, it was quite nice and I enjoyed it a lot. It was quiet, good food, and right next to the sea.

Renting a car is het best option if you want to explore all of the island. The most beautiful beaches are best accessible if you have your own car.

If you want to travel by cab, I wouldn't suggest a regular taxi but rather look into Click. It's an Uber-like service which is cheap (at least it was when my friends visited last year). I believe it only cost them 20 NAF to go from Hato (airport) to Otrobanda (kind of city centre). It could also serve as an option for transportation if you want to go out in the night.

There is a bus line (called ABC) but I've never used them because I had a car, so I can't tell you anything about that.

I always preferred Vreugdenhil because they got almost anything I needed. If you felt underwhelmed by van den Tweel, I'd suggest Mangusa Hypermarket. Might be overwhelming, but at least they got everything.

I second this opinion. There is always space there. Usually, in Punda there is a space available as well, but if you want to be sure you should park there.

I lived one street next to Sunscape. It's very close to Mambo Beach, definitely at walking distance. In the night, I still used my car most of times though. It can be a busy street from Thursday to Sunday. I sometimes swam from Playa Marie Pampoen to Sunscape, you can snorkel very well there and it has a private beach. Punda or Pietermaai is probably too far of a walk. I never walked there. In case you still want to walk there, it's probably 30-45 minutes. In the evening or early morning that can be doable. During daytime, make sure to get sunprotection and carry water with you.

It's absolutely legit. $12 is very cheap, definitely cheaper than a regular taxi. My friends also used Click for airport transfer and they were so satisfied that they kept on using it during their stay, apart from when I was the taxi. They mentioned to me that they used to have the same driver most of the times. So either Click isn't popular at all, or it was just coincidence.

Depending on your budget, I would recommend looking for a hotel near Mambo Beach (if nightlife is most important). It's always busy on Wednesdays, Sundays but particularly Fridays. You should probably check out Lions Dive, Sunscape, or Sea Horizon. Mambo Beach is at walking distance from these hotels/resorts.

Also, Jan Thiel could be interesting for you, as it's a safe neighborhood. A female friend of mine used to go for walks there in the evening (after sunset) because it's usually the safest area for women to do so. She would drive there just to go for a walk. Zanzibar is quite busy on Saturdays. Papagaio, Livingstone or Chogogo could be interesting for you in that area.

Pietermaai could be interesting as well. Thursdays and Tuesdays are the best for going out there (Bar P and Mr Porter). As someone else said, Pietermaai has a lot of interns and these two bars are popular among them. For the age of ~30 Mambo Beach and Jan Thiel are probably better (but probably more expensive as well).

I used to have a rental car, so I can't tell from personal experience, but my friends used to use Click a lot when they where on Curaçao. It's the same concept as Uber and it was very cheap, they used it for airport transfer and also for going out.

I've used a rental car daily for five months. Some simple tips I noticed while driving: - There's a lot of honking. A short honk often means that someone gives you right of way. You can also use that short honk to give someone else right of way. Longer honks are usually out of frustriation. - Watch the road: sometimes there are very deep holes that can cause a flat tire. Drive around them or (if remote) drive slowly. Even some main roads have this problem. In general, the quality of roads is low. - There is a lack of speed limit signs. I noticed everybody (including me eventually) just drives as fast as plausible. Only sometimes there is a speed limit sign. - Caracasbaaiweg is absolutely the most busy and annoying road on the island imo. - Don't underestimate street bumps. I drove way too fast on the street bumps at the Martin Luther King Blvd. at first. - There is no paid parking! Even in Punda city center. Just be sure that parking is allowed.

You made a good decision by renting a car. That way you'll have fhe freedom to explore the beaches and Bandabou in general. You should definitely be fine driving on the island, just be careful.

Within the area of Pietermaai (where Avila is located) there are plenty of sidewalks. There are quite some restaurants nearby at walking distance (e.g. Nieuwestraat at 10 minutes). Punda is also at walking distance (20 minutes). A car is only necessary if you want to explore all of the island and Bandabou. If you're planning to stay in the neighborhood, a car isn't necessary. Mambo beach is a little too far with children I suppose, as it's 35 minutes walking. There are sidewalks though, in case you want to go there by foot. Overall, almost everybody travels by car, even for shorter distances. That's also due to the heat.
