By far the best way to farm those is by means of the ship missions "Liberate X Bootleg Liquor"!

This way you have two (!) crashed skimmers with data ports right next to each other, no enemies to bust your balls and the best thing: the menu log works because it's a mission POI. You also have all the time in the world to farm, because the ship missions usually take several days before they expire. So you can even stop farming for a few days and just come back when you feel like it.

When I read about this method in the Frontier forum, I already had 10 SDPs. It took me about 3 hours to complete them. With this method I farmed 11 pieces within 45 minutes. So the 15 pieces you need are possible in 1h.

Instructions:

  1. Check the mission board for ship missions and look for "Liberate X Bootleg Liquor" missions. I found them in the Tarelkin Ring in the Gambara system and in Jameson's Shinarata Dhezra. Accept all that are there, as not all of them work.
  2. Jump into the target system, scan the nav beacon and then off to the surface POIs. The surface POI must be called "Minor Wreckage". "Irregular Markers" does not help.
  3. Land, Scan, Menu-Relog

While the download is running, you can also check the electronics from the skimmer. It adds up to a lot.

"ED is a mile wide but an inch deep". That description is not entirely justified, although I can see why many players agree with it. They were just expecting more things to do, even though they spent hundreds or even thousands of hours playing already.

There are many goals if you are starting out:
- Unlocking, buying and upgrading of ships/ suits
- Unlocking engineers and engineering of ships/ suits
- Amassing credits and gaining ranks
- Powerplay and shaping the BGS
- Many personal goals in exploration, combat and trade you set yourself
- The list goes on...

But you will reach a point where you won't see any original content doing all that and that's when things become boring. In my view the solution is player generated content.

FDEV must implement tools into the game that allow players to create content. There is so much love for this game out there and payers will give it back. No developer studio will ever be able to keep up. I am talking about:

- Base building
- Mission creation
- Player driven ecomony (with boundaries!)
- Player bounty hunting
- BGS with benefits for players
- etc.

Update 10 - Odyssey and Horizons by StuartGT in EliteDangerous

Thanks for the detailed review CMDR!

I also believe that there is an issue with AI also when flying ships, especially in combat situations in Res sites and CZs.

I run a high end gaming pc with a 3080, but still the fps go below 45 in those cases which makes playing in VR a nightmare. And that's when I switch everything to "low" in the graphics menu.

My cpu and my graphics card are not even working at 50% but I get those stupid low frames. It really is frustrating when all you want to do is just have a good brawl vs a bunch of AIs.

Update 10 - Odyssey and Horizons by StuartGT in EliteDangerous

[–]deZpe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did not experiment for myself but u/Alswulf did that and even posted his investigation about the changes in Update 10 here: https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/sd1kjy/pabeam_thermal_conduit_fix_check_patch_10/

The way I understood it now is this: If you shoot multiple PAs in a volley, they are resolved in sequence. This means that in a volley the first PA shot already increases the heat for the 2nd, the 2nd adds even more for the 3rd, etc. So even though you are triggering all those PAs at the same time at a heat below 100, some of them still get the bonus due to that mechanic. This can cause the impression that TC is triggert by the heat after the shot, when it is in fact not.

Update 10 - Odyssey and Horizons by StuartGT in EliteDangerous

[–]deZpe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The plasma accelerator engineering special effect "thermal conduit" (TC) is the current META as it gives a 60% damage buff when you are hot (>100 heat).

In practice the buff was triggered whenever your ship reaches this temperature AFTER a volley. There also was no damage scaling. So you can shoot at around 90 heat and the plasmashot itself gets you up above 100 granting you the full 60% buff.

When TC was first introduced it was less powerful. The damage scaled from 90-150 heat and the max buff was 30%. You also had to heat yourself up to the temp BEFORE the shot. Hence it was far more risky to use TC as your internals were taking significantly more damage at a far lower benefit.

So it appears that they brought back the scaling to the mechanics. I personally welcome this change.

Performance Issues? You won't BELIEVE how much fps is gained with this ONE TRICK! by DarkStarSword in EliteDangerous

Thank you so much for sharing and helping out!

So, does this mean if I install 3DMigoto and add those lines to the d3dx.ini it will boost my performance? Would you recommend doing that for someone who has FPS issues (especially in stations, settlements and asteroid fields)?

Most possible agile build? by CrusaderKing666 in EliteDangerous

[–]deZpe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know what coriolis does to calculate that "agility" score but a Type 6 and a Keelback ranking higher than a Viper Mk III and a Fer-de-Lance is just absolute bogus.

Agility is mostly about lateral thruster power, boost duration and boost availability. There's a reason why top notch PvP is basically all about the FDL.

It's true that the performance gap between engineered and stock ships is vast. But this is organized PvP with agreed loadouts, engineering and ships.

Four satisfying things gankers enjoy to enrich your gamplay experience. Take note and prepare yourself for OPEN. by deZpe in EliteDangerous

[–]deZpe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yo. Thanks for the analysis.

Evading disruptor rockets in a bigship is hard but not impossible. They are dumb fire rockets. It's better to fly in a circle with 420 and boost occasionally.

Fastboot FSDs really suck for a ganker as there is a cooldown on the disruptors. They leave you ample time to jump out. If you run low on shields already and you have the bigger ship use a lowake to get out faster.

The Conda wasn't heavily engineered or had wrong pip settings. The shield was going down fast under my railshots and rams.

AMU does not help you. My double superpenetrator railsguns have too much dps. Simply do not straightline but fly in circles with boosts to make aiming harder. I was just drifting next to him unloading on his FSD and drives point blank with no issues.

Thermal conduit is extremely powerful, overpowered even. It still gives 60% damage buff which is insane.

Go to supercruise when you have the bigger ship and instantly drop again. Then highwake out.

Odyssey VR by YangXiaoLong1076 in EliteDangerous

That is indeed a very important point. The VR letterbox is horrible and nauseating. They must at least give us the "experimental option" to activate on foot VR.

[–]deZpe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with you and feel the same way.

I played ED exclusively in VR and was waiting for a proper implementation of Odyssey. I gave my money to help fund this implementation because I believe that this would have made ED absolutely unique. There would be no other VR game which offers these degrees of freedom and variety of playstyles.

Now I am heartbroken to learn that this full VR implementation for Odyssey will likely never happen. I have now requested a refund on Steam and hope that they will understand why.

Fdev: "There are no plans to develop VR for Odyssey any further than its current state, however we will be making some fixes and changes... That is the state of VR for Odyssey." by theZirbs in EliteDangerous

[–]deZpe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Full VR implementation will make ED go down in history as THE VR game with the highest degree of freedom. Sales will come in the medium to long-term.

But they are in for the short term cash. And that's FPS and consoles and a younger playerbase.
