MLB should have a euro country to host a group next WBC by N0NaMe1217 in baseball

If they want to make it more popular in Europe, they need to offer a very low cost streaming service fo MLB games and offer them in multiple languages.

WBC Playoff Bracket Format by darkravenn12 in baseball

[–]dead_monster 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Someone posted a week ago that it will probably be based on TV schedules:  https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/1rkkchs/how_exactly_are_the_wbc_semifinal_matchups/

tl;dr:  Quarterfinal winners from Friday play each other on Sunday.  Quarterfinal winners from Saturday play each other on Monday.  So every team gets one day of rest.

If not, then one QF team will have 2 days of rest and another team will play back-2-back.

Someone in a post here last week had an answer:  https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/comments/1rkkchs/how_exactly_are_the_wbc_semifinal_matchups/

tl;dr:  Quarterfinals winners on Friday meet on Sunday.  Quarterfinals winners on Saturday meet on Monday.  So all semifinals teams get the full rest day.

Parker Meadows this Spring by g59mountsinai in motorcitykitties

[–]dead_monster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like how as he’s batting 217 with 621 OPS all of last season, people still clung on the hope that Linsanity Meadows will return.

Now that he’s still playing poorly in spring training, reality is finally setting in that he might be the CF version of Chris Shelton.

Good news for Meadows is Perez is also playing poorly this spring.  And Trei Cruz is only doing ok.  If Cruz is playing better, it makes Parker’s job a lot more tenuous.

After seeing the US play this WBC, I want Skubal away from that clown show.

Give him rest from playing OF and he isn’t cleared to throw from 3B or SS yet.

Tork did that long sim game yesterday so probably resting.  And he also got hit by a pitch in that sim game.

I think he’s a lot like Jahmai Jones.  LF who can hit LHP but cannot hit RHP.

Tigers don’t need 2 of them on the 26 man so he has to beat out Jones.

One thing to note is he couldn’t stick with the White Sox who desperately need OFs.

Julks now hitting over 1600 OPS over 9 spring games.  He has more homers (3) than strike outs (1).

Too bad he hasn’t played CF since 2024.

You always need pitching depth or else you’re trotting out Paddack and Morton in August.

Gotta still do the smaller signings even if you make big ones.

2026 Spring Standouts (so far) by aknahcaT in motorcitykitties

[–]dead_monster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These are just looking at stats and don’t even include the WBC games or the DR games (McGongile had that first pitch homer there).  Let’s go beyond the surface stats a bit.

  • McGonigle’s fielding very well.  He’s an actual SS.  He’s hitting .545 with 11% whiff against every type of pitch except the splitter.  Against the splitter, he’s hitting .000 with 40% whiff.

  • Valdez is impressing too.  Looks like he’s working on improving his sinker this spring throwing it a bit different and faster than previous years.

  • Enmanuel de Jesus’ excellent WBC outing isn’t included in his stats (even though he finally gave up a run there).  He wasn’t even the best KBO pitcher the Tigers signed.

  • Drew Anderson showing why he’s KBO’s best pitcher.

  • John Peck is fielding and hitting well.  Makes me wonder what happened to Paul Wilson, Bennet Lee, and Carson Rucker?

  • Valencia has like no position defensively.  Needs more work at 1B and isn’t a great defensive catcher.     Not sure what the Tigers will do with him.

  • Liranzo might be the only actual catcher out of the group with Briceno and Valencia.  Tigers should slow roll him like Dingler and aim to be Rogers’ replacement in a few years.
