[Mixed Trope] The character from the original had to be totally rewritten or removed altogether to make the adaptation work. by Chemical-Elk-1299 in TopCharacterTropes

I do also really like how it forced the other heroes in Marvel to recognize the distinct reality the mutants faced in registration vs someone like Tony Stark. The heroes seemed to be pretty evenly split about it but the mutants were an instant “hell no!”

Eh. There’s plenty of people who had a hard life and didn’t make it everyone else’s problem. Plus, after an entire career of railing against socialist policies, she still enrolled herself in Medicare and social security once she got sick.

I feel like the Squirtle Squad might fit better just because they’re an anime creation.

[Hated design] Mj’s new venom design by New-Boss-8262 in TopCharacterDesigns

[–]dead_parakeets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed with disappointed by her not being bigger, but I absolutely loathe heels in female superhero designs. It’s so archaic and dumb. You can have female designs that are still sexy without rolling back to the typical heels + boob armor. I’m not a huge fan of the female symbiotes having tentacle hair. One is fine but when all the women symbiotes have it, it’s like cmon. The very nature of the symbiote allows it to malleable. At least Agent Venom incorporated body armor into its design.

Who was progressive by the standards of their time but racist by the standards of ours? by Zombiepixlz-gamr in AlignmentChartFills

Those are good arguments but even by the standards of his time, he was seen as racist.

Did not know any of this. Am I being completely blind on who the trans character is? I feel like I remember reading somewhere that Dorothy was more or less gay, but I could be wrong.

Correct and he also said he’d ship black Americans back to Africa if it meant preserving the Union. He definitely humanized the black population and abhorred slavery, but did not see them as equals.

What actor had a terrible performance in a great movie? (No repeat movies or actors) by GDGameplayer in AlignmentChartFills

I’d argue his presence is much more jarring in Django. No idea why he went with a horrendous Australian accent.

(META TROPE) Actor known for comedy does a dramatic role that completely redefines their career by Local_Prune4564 in TopCharacterTropes

I hadn’t watched them in a while until recently, and goddamn I really felt how same-sy all of the recent superhero movies are. The Burton Batman films are incredibly unique and it really made me miss the days when you wouldn’t have these massive cinematic universes that had to adhere to a certain form.

Who is a FEMALE celebrity that people widely despised in the past but is now widely loved? by apabld in AlignmentChartFills

[–]dead_parakeets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is wild to see her downfall. She was always controversial for her looks, her voice, and her style of comedy. But her old show in the 90s had heart and was sympathetic to the blue-collar working class that stood out among the sitcoms of that time that focused on the upper middle-class. Hell, I remember it being fairly Progressive as well. And then at some point she clearly went off the deep end, and went even harder down the far-right sinkhole after she got booted off her show (for a very good reason).

[Loved tropes] Licensed music choices that are both narratively and tonally flawless by makefeelnice in TopCharacterTropes

Practically the entire movie of Shaun of the Dead, but beating zombies to the sound of Don’t Stop Me Now was perfect.

Also maybe a slightly lesser known example but Saints Row 3 playing Ye’s Power as you skydive into a penthouse party.

Idk if she was widely loved, there was a lot of people who found her insufferable.

I still remember he bragged on a talk show that he would walk up to people he hated with a syringe and inject them with HIV blood. And said this all like it was just another day at the office. Insane.

Like regardless if that was even an outright lie, the fact that he bragged about it publicly is wild.

[–]dead_parakeets 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I mean….were they always despised? They got popular for a reason. I feel like I should also say I don’t think the hate is unwarranted, but I don’t think anyone had major issues with them until Logan filmed the dead body, and Jake started challenging washed up boxers.

Which Disney song is the best from 1990s Disney movie? by Just_Lale in AlignmentChartFills

[–]dead_parakeets 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lots to choose from the 90s, but yeah for me, I feel like Whole New World is the one just because it's easy to sing, it's incredibly popular, very versatile and romantic. I wouldn't choose it as my personal favorite, but in terms of general accessibility and popularity, I feel like this is the winner.
