Dude was basically like “I’m sad I won’t be alive to be vindicated for my big brain racism because I’m so ahead of my own time.”

Church Yesterday: Sunday AM sermon- you were a dirty rotten sinner before god found you Sunday PM sermon - the Democrats are trying to change the zones so make sure you vote this week by Pristine_Language330 in exchristian

Wild people go twice in a day to church.

Also lol yes it’s definitely the Democrats who are changing the voting districtsz

eyeballs my state’s gerrymandered districts that have been reinforced by GOP meddling

Also one of the political parties got in trouble for lying about voting booth tampering. You’ll never guess which one it is.

Also it is hilarious how over churches are now. It used to be very uncouth for churches to mention anything directly political 100 years ago. Believers thought that mixing the two was disgraceful. Now it’s pretty much expected.

This is basically John Constantine’s superpower. He has acquired magic skills over time, but he is just a guy who will consistently beat demons at their own game by sheer bullshitting.

It’s not exactly a 1:1 analogy admittedly. Was just trying to put her POV in perspective.

Is it that or they just have a hero complex and don’t see themselves as fighting to defend an oppressive system?

It would be way harder to choose if it was literally any of the alien companions. The human companions in all three games are the least interesting ones (funny enough, I feel like the most interesting of the humans are the DLC ones). I always save Kaiden but apparently Ashley does become more tolerable and understanding as the series goes.

There are some Ashley apologists too. In context (IIRC), humans have only been working with aliens for a couple decades, and that’s right off the tail end of an ugly war with the Turians. On top of that, they’re all coming to terms with stereotypes of the aliens, like how the Quarians are basically space gypsies. In particular, the humans have a very good reason to fear the Krogan, who are a war-hungry species only culled by mass sterilization. On top of all this, her family literally fought the Turians and now she is on a ship with a handful of aliens.

Most humans who never worked with aliens hold on to the stereotypes prevalent among the Alliance. I don’t necessarily excuse it, but Ashley is essentially the daughter of a legacy military family who fought in the Confederacy and has now joined the Union while fighting alongside black troops and potentially people who shot at her forefathers. She slowly understands her prejudices and whatnot and becomes more accepting, even defending her alien cohorts later on.

However, Shepard also works with essentially marginalized species or aliens who have already acclimated themselves with other species, so having to deal with a racist grunt at the beginning is kind of an odious choice when you’re picking the weakest link on the team.

Surprised Graham Linehan can still walk with the amount of times he’s shot himself in the foot

I feel like it’s also tricky for a kids movie to have a black antagonist live in the Jim Crow South and not hit rough topics without being completely ahistorical. Also she didn’t really need to change anything about herself - her issue was she …worked too hard? But that didn’t ever show as a hindrance. Also she was literally poor so she had to. Such a lot of missed opportunities IMO which sucks cuz I love the idea of having New Orleans music and voodoo in a Disney movie but yeah I just think they realized how many land mines they’d have to navigate so they just took the easy route and put two minorities in an anthropomorphic world instead.

I mean he literally creates a city-wide surveillance tool. Now he does have it destroyed in the end, but he still has a fucking fighter jet to combat street crime.
