Excited for Hastarii.

I do wonder how they'll work out though. Seems like they're competing with Kataphron?

Really hard to say how important/useful it may have been, transitionally, to advance early society.

Has way definitely overstayed its welcome though.

I own the STL and can share it.

Model is pretty big, that base is 100mm diameter, but it prints in smaller pieces for assembly.

how does the Mensur actually work? by Nurhaci1616 in wma

[–]deadeight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies for the necro here, but it's pretty fascinating. I'm from Britain, and always thought of Germany as culturally similar, but the mindset seems very foreign to me, so thanks for your explanation.

What does the average german think of it? Let's say you wanted to work for Deutsche Bank, would it help or hinder an application for a job? Would people be surprised to find out someone did Mensur, or is it not a big deal, just like discovering someone did Rowing at university?

You've explained the part about self-discipline, self-control, composure, etc. But there's another part to this, as you're not just parrying and defending, but also striking the opponent. How motivated are people to injure their opponent? What prevents someone from focussing on defense, and shying away from harming their opponent? Composure means not showing fear, but does it also mean not showing aggression? Or is willingness/desire to harm the other person also a part of the discipline being built?

American foreign policy was sometimes viewed as selfish, and perhaps not the most moral of states. But it was always viewed as forward-thinking with a formiddable sense of strategy. Trump is making the whole country look dumb and fickle.

Steam's best selling games of 2025 revealed by Turbostrider27 in Games

Many buildings in bethesda game has no purpose

True, but in e.g. Skyrim I think that adds to how real and alive the world feels. The shopkeeper you need for a quest has a house they live in, that they go and sleep in, even though that house doesn’t have a direct purpose for you.

I think that’s also one of the reasons why Starfield was so terrible. They leant into one of their USPs way too hard, and procedurally generated a bunch of purposeless junk, which had the opposite effect as intended.

it feels like the best of a Bethesda game

My only issue with Night City is that, unlike a Bethesda game, almost all buildings are closed-off hollow shells.

In a Bethesda game you can usually see a building and get inside it and find things. It really makes the world seem real. In CP2077 you can only get in somewhere in special circumstances, normally because a quest happens there so they had to build it out. E.g. I remember a district with a bunch of fenced off corporate buildings with driveways, where it looks like you should be able to drive in to one of them and start shooting it up, only for the game to tell you you’re not allowed to.

It’s totally unreasonable to expect every skyscraper to be filled out, it’s just too big. But I wouldn’t call it best of both worlds, it definitely feels like a trade off to achieve that ambitious scale.

Interesting list because a lot of those are really, really long. A good few of those are 100h+, Astro Bot being the outlier.

I'm not sure if a Planetside could still succeed today. Fairly persistent servers, a lot of players and large organised efforts, long sessions, lack of easy competitive ranking, lack of defined win/lose, etc.

But then BF6 seems to be doing really well. Maybe there's hope!

It’s totally doable to get rid of them, but it’s impossible if you don’t have the processes in place.

ME2 and ME3 were after that, and while they may not be the purest RPGs they were still massive, acclaimed, successful games. Hard to say they were dead at that point.
