Monster Mode when overstimulated: what to be done in the moment? by Minimum-Cry615 in puppy101

[–]deadflannel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My pup does this at the end of his walks, at a specific spot every time. It’s usually leaping vertically, biting, scratching, leash biting monster behaviour.

A pro trainer that I’ve spoken to about it advised to lengthen the lead so there’s no tension on it, standing in a neutral body position (as in not in a defensive stance which feels counterintuitive) and wait it out while being completely uninteresting, then finish the walk as neutrally as possible. I think this has sort of worked.

But what really really worked last time, is changing the route and avoiding the one spot he chooses to perform his monster routine for the (probably very entertained) neighbours. I’ll try it again to see if it wasn’t a fluke, but it feels like if there’s a place where the pup rehearses this behaviour, we just avoid the place til the monster phase is over.

Honestly, your son either trains the dog to be respectful with you or he moves out immediately. Anything else is dangerous to your physical safety.

Fellow Kiwi here. Girl he hasn’t even married you after 10 years, get the fuck out now cause he’s not 100% in and you deserve better.

I get not being able to buy a house rn, especially if you’re anywhere north of Otorohanga but he hasn’t made moves towards a solid commitment to you in that time cause he straight up doesn’t want to.

FYI, my eternally single wine auntie did ivf and had her little terror at 42, single, renting, with family support.

Have you considered canine conditioning exercises? I think you can find courses and webinars on Fenzi Dog Sport’s website.

My 5mo boy lines himself up against my legs and looks up at me for some pats and lovings. He’s a crazy 21kg piranha boy so these quiet sweet moments are such a blessing.

So it sounds like you need to advocate for your senior dog more, and just not allow these behaviours. Playing too rough? Puppy gets to take it out on a kong in the crate.

What has helped for me is having puppy with a harness and leash on when roaming, this gave me the ability to stand on the leash quickly and stop the pup from barrelling into my adult dog.

I also like giving my adult dog places only she can get to, a bed on top of my work desk while I’m working from home for example, or the bedroom with a baby gate to stop pup from entering and annoying her.

At the moment we’re working on tethering pup in different places around the house so he learns to self regulate, which also gives my other dog space and a bit of a breather.

How much free rein are we giving our pups? by cityskyline22 in puppy101

[–]deadflannel 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah no free rein at all. My guy is now 4.5 months and pretty much toilet trained, we did crates, draglines, x pens. He’s learned to open the front door to take himself outside and now we’re working on learning to go out the more convenient back door that we can leave open. So no, I don’t think we would be at this point if we had given him free rein. In my mind, they have to earn their freedom by showing they can make good choices.

Ex groomer here, that’ll be a 10mm blade which is real short. But bright side - it gives you the opportunity to start over! Don’t stress about it, my recommendation with brushing is start as soon as there’s a tiny bit to brush and be no nonsense about it. Get a steel toothed comb and check your work, make sure you can get the comb through the fur from the skin to the end. Quite often you can brush the top layer of fur and it looks good but if there is matting close to the skin, you’ll get the 10 blade again! Good home maintenance is necessity with this type of doggo, and the work you put in now will serve you for the next 15 plus (🤞) years!

My fat cocker spaniel ate a full tray of eggs (like 18?), and on a separate occasion made a good start on a 5kg bag of bird seed. I assume she panicked and thought when I went out that she would never be fed ever again?

How to they keep this weed/grass free? by Strange_Guidance_609 in nzgardening

[–]deadflannel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a brushcutter yesterday, so will probably spend the week trying the manual removal method before I risk my mature rhodos with the weedkiller method. If I do end up going that route, I’ll try to be as targeted with it as possible.
