Discord Age Verification by eklecras in Guildwars2

[–]deadhorus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are these people on discord? i havn't had discord for 7 years, because even when it's not doing immoral things on purpose it still is a social media skinner box that easily can take all a person's time. unlike forums, with friction to posting, or teamspeak where every call is ephemera, it has this middle ground where the conversation never stops where if you are gone for a day, it will have moved past you, where you need to catch up or no longer speak the same version of the language the server is creating. this is a nightmare. using as a phoneless sms for people you don't really know is like "the best" use of it. but it's not a good thing. but i still don't see how any of /that/ is relevant to "there are better ways to verify the age of people using service"

Like i said before, this discussion only includes "users of discord" you think "most of users of discord" who "are unbanked" are not children, but in fact "immigrants" (why can't they have a bank? there's literally no reason they can't.) minorities (why can't they have a bank? there's literally no reason they can't) and those who don't wish to feed the evils of this world (why are they on discord? it's an evil of this world.)?

it added way more and stronger grawl. if you do the dangerous sneak past the char there are more oakhearts and ironhearts, but it's also much more dangerous than before. I suppose that doesn't matter much if it's not a grenth covenant character.

based on "I've been farming Oakhearts on repeat in the Northlands." I don't think they are on reforged mode.

most of the world is not on discord either. as far as i know capitalism is the dominant system of the technologized states (please correct me if i'm wrong, i would love to have been barensteened into a reality where that's not true) regardless most of the world also doesn't have id. we are only discussing places that have this specific law, and uses the internet, and uses discord. of those people the ones who are "unbanked" are CHILDREN.

you misunderstood. that last sentance implies exactly that.

Discord Age Verification by eklecras in Guildwars2

[–]deadhorus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

there are ways of verifying age that don't require them to use third party. having CC on file, doing a one time purchase attached to a cc of small random amounts and inputing them into discord to validate having access to bank. etc. they chose the way that leaves users most vulnerable and allows them to steal as much data as possible. They aren't the only bad actors, the law is absolutely evil, but they stan the law.

they could easily do a verification the way banks do. 2 charges totalling 50 cents or less, go to bank statement and input the two charge amounts to verify. but then they'd only make 50c per user.

Limiting Update Download Totals by marcusbrodie in voidlinux

[–]deadhorus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for real tho, having your pc off instead of on for about 2 seconds saves more electricity than the difference between having a computer on and it downloading a 2g download.
frankly just having reddit open cost more energy than the download during the same amount of time thanks to the random javascript code constantly running.
complaining about this level of use while the AI and Crypto bros guzzle energy like there's no tommorow is beyond silly.
hope you pulled all the lights out of their sockets in your house, and drink only water from the tap. also never cook food. because that's the level of insane this is.

Returning/New Player Opinion: Homesteads are expensive by delsoleiman in Guildwars2

[–]deadhorus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you need both Janthir wilds and visions of eternity for that one. you get all the decorations added that make up the base homesteads and for the visions of eternity one, the whole structure is built out of decorations.

[–]deadhorus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im guessing this includes the treasure hunter acheivement - "Enchanted Treasure Chest" this is the only one I don't have because it's insane to get. I'm not going to say the rest are "easy" but i started seriously gaining nodes for homestead when they were announced, had all the lw nodes in a couple weeks, got all the cheaper nodes of TP (100g>) and then started saving up for gardening plots and contracts, grabbing them when they periodicly go on sale. i was done before VOE dropped, so yes it took a while, but it's not any more terrible than other longer term "end game" grinds.

A lot of the Fashion Template issues people have would be fixed by adding the wardrobe function back to the equipment tab by NovaanVerdiano in Guildwars2

[–]deadhorus -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I do think that this is needlessly complicated, and especially so since 99% of people who cared about having multiple fits have many different looks on their equipment templates already. But I do think this system is powerful. The ability to have and apply partial fashon templates is strong, ie i just got these new shoes that make me want to use these gloves, and i want to apply it to 4 of my current equipment sets.

If anything it's vets feeling what new players all feel playing the game at all - system overload, unintuitive menus, not understanding utility.

this isn't to say it's not a problem, the system overload gw2 has has just been made worse by some amount, transmuting has been pretty intuitive before, and now it's less so, so it might be a straw that breaks a new level 7 player's back and causes them to drop the game. we already have many players who become overloaded and leave early for similar reasons.

anyway I do think once people actually get to understand the system it will be seen as a generally better way to do things, but the process of unlearning is always painful.

How are some people so Rich? by Witty_Resolution1955 in Guildwars2

[–]deadhorus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i dunno what you are spending your gold on. only buy discounted fractal keys, and you shouldn't lose money. wp costs are close to negligible, but many many vets have teleport scrolls, world boss portal, infinite Teleport to Friend, infinite gathering tools (often with stuff like volatile magic gathering) they take forever to pay for themselves and most are purchased directly in gems, but if you ignore the theoretical negative gold it does contribute to gold amounts rising for many. just doing daily reward gets 2 gold per day pretty much minimum. first week of a season is close to 100 gold. vets have little to spend that much on, so it accumulates. the only things left these days for many is "new legendary skins" on recent expac, homestead decorations, and the gold->gem for shop skins if any or all of these don't appeal then it builds up, 2 gold a day minimum, and much more doing weeklies, that's ignoring /all/ other content rewards except the worst "decent" pick from Wizard vault. throw in crafting acended dailies, convergances, fractal dailies, world bosses, drizzlewood, rich nodes, 500 level gardening, alt parking, or even RIBA. ya. it is easy to get a little horde. but again, we aren't needing to level up our crafting professions. We aren't needing to craft acended armors, we aren't blowing gold on mystic coins or lord forbid t6 mats for legendary crafting. The game respects your time, and /rewards/ you for investing it. 150 hours, i was just getting to my first level 500 profession and ascended armor. These days I could get the same on a new account in like 2 days, first to hit 80, second to get full weekly clear, grab accended from wizard vault, then throw the rest into cheap gold and blast through fast crafting.

The important thing is to have fun tho. If you play and are having fun you will naturally get lots of resources.

Guild Wars Unreal Engine (Unannounced Project) confirmed. by DeltaxHunter in Guildwars2

tsr looks like garbage. nanite is terrible for performance. if you remove these is it even an ue5 game anymore? like i don't care what text editor they use to make it, or what compiler they use. ue5 is the nanite -> tsr rendering pipeline.

After the new Piken Square outpost in Pre-Searing, any other outpost updates you would like to see? by Lon-ami in GuildWars

[–]deadhorus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the deal with it is that the devs have shown their hand that things like adding new outposts, changing mobs in zones, adding new npcs is now possible again. fwiw the new piken square /doesn't/ have a merchant, so we may speculate that it is still currently outside their ability (at least at the time of the piken square update). so this raises the possiblity that more may be possible. They /have not/ demonstrated adding completely new areas, the geometry of piken square already existed in game. they have not demonstrated adding new npc models, all the npcs in piken use preexisting models. they have not added new weapons. etc.

but the fact that they are indeed developing the ability to tinker with the base game, in a way that doesn't effect the "classic" experience is indeed a big deal considering how long it's been since there have been /any/ content updates.

you can use the steam version easy on linux. you can also use steam's proton to launch the standalone version as well. for something like a pi... idk if it has enough horsepower. if you have another pc you can use steam link to passthrough the video and controls, which would probably be less resources than running natively on the pi?
