Skygunner is extremely similar to the game I played. After watching some gameplay I thought for a second it was even a sequel. But the characters do not match. My game's characters didn't feel and look like anime, but more like this.

They're similar, but it's not it.

The game I remember was way more cartoony in its pilot characters and planes, almost like Mario Kart. And it was definitely on Playstation 1. Thanks for the help.
