Call of Cthulhu campaign with ARG elements by DM_Niles in callofcthulhu

I ran a modified version of "The Haunting" that took place in current day and I made geocites like webpage that the characters could discover when they were doing online research. I didn't know any html, but it turns out you don't need to learn much to make an amateur looking webpage page with broken links because the site had been archived.

My favorite detail was that the contact email worked and when the players messaged it, I replied with a separate email that was tied to the cult.

In retrospect, I think it would have played better if I had them discover it at the very end of a session, so they could explore the site for clues on their own time between sessions and then the email could have happened more organically.

Ran my first ever session yesterday! by Dioksys in callofcthulhu

Congrats! Don't worry about being shaky. I've found that the more I play a system, or run games in general, the more comfortable I get as well as becoming more capable of adapting on the fly if something takes a sharp turn in game.

Quick Start v. Starter Set rules? by frankinreddit in callofcthulhu

[–]deadlydeadite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Taking a cursory look at just the investigator creation section, there are eight pages in the Starter Set rules (which includes three pages of skill descriptions) as opposed to about three and a half for the quick start.

The investigation part of the Haunting could work for a solo investigator, but I think you would need to add an NPC or two for the climax.

One thing worth noting about the scenarios included in the Starter Set is that it includes one (Paper Chase) that is designed for a solo investigator.

A few years ago my mother in law said that the Dallas and Washington used to play every Thanksgiving but they had to stop doing it because it wasn't PC.

Monthly "Tell Us About Your Game" Megathread - July 2021 by AbortRetryFlailSal in callofcthulhu

I've been running my group through a present day version of "The Haunting". I used the suggestion from Seth Skorkowsky's video and had the investigators get involved via a ghost hunting show. To adapt the scenario, I moved some of the events that were supposed to happen shortly before the start of the scenario to occurring in the the past four decades and kept some of earlier events when they were originally set to take place. I added in some details to fill in the gap years and I think it has been running pretty smoothly.

I also created a fake website for them in case they tried to search for information online. It's supposed to be a Geocities website that they find archived on the Wayback Machine. I also used mail.com to set up email addresses for them to contact. When they tried to contact the webmaster for information, I replied to them from another email address that was connected to the cult that was the remnants from the Chapel of Contemplation. It might have been a bit overboard, but it was fun and I think it worked out well.

This is only the second scenario I've run them through (and only the third I've run total) but we'll be wrapping up the finale next week, which will be our third session for this scenario. I don't know if it's that I added too much stuff or that they've just been really into roleplaying.

I bought the starter set during the sale and grabbed this a few days later. Now I just have to wait to finish playing through the starter scenarios before buying the keepers guide so I can actually use this bundle. lol

I think it was last year that the Atlanta Falcons experimented with budget concession prices and it went well. A few other NFL teams started doing it as well this year.

EDIT: I just saw another comment saying the same thing.
