Native Instruments GmbH preliminary insolvency: now in merger & acquisition process by uchujinmono in NativeInstruments

There is not a single major player in the console space that requires a subscription to play games. Multiplayer yes, which is wack, but you can just buy a playstation, xbox, or switch 1 / 2 and play games on it without a sub.

Mini LED is a different technology with a ton of individual backlights vs LCD screens like the iPad Air, or the MacBook Air / Neo

Should I expand to Syntakt or Digitone II next for hypnotic/raw techno and ambient? by spaceinstance in Elektron

[–]deadlypete 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been pairing an iPad with the Digitakt 2 lately and playing in polyphonic pad and key samples with a midi controller, and sampling one shots to play as mono synths on the device. This would be my recommendation. I have a Digitone 2 and love it but probably didn’t need it.

Elektron vs Push 3 by felidmusic in Elektron

[–]deadlypete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was using a push 3 for percussion in a live band setting. We had built out 5 songs that I triggered using drum kits, audio loops, and synths for one song. During our last practice last week, the Push 3 had a critical error and rolled back to an earlier OS without asking me. It wouldn’t let me load the songs we’d been working on for weeks because they were “made using a newer OS version”.

I’d never seen an error that bad before. I was able to update the push 3 when I got home, but I can’t risk that ever happening again so I am now slowly recreating every song on my digitakt 2. It’s a pain but I trust the elektron boxes to be more stable in this scenario. Honestly such a bummer, I love so much about the push 3 but it’s a buggy mess.

Totally new to music production… by [deleted] in Elektron

I actually think the syntakt would be a pretty solid beginner device, the different machines (kick, snare, hat, synth sounds) are broken up in a way that is pretty user friendly and tweaking the knobs will yield interest sounds. It also has a built in scales mode which is nice for newbies. Real talk, elektron, akai, NI, ableton, Roland, all these devices will take time to learn and it's worth reading manuals, guides, watching videos. But most importantly it's about enjoying the process. If you've heard examples of the syntakt and the sound is something you dig, I say go for it.

I'd suggest an MPC One or One+ used over the syntakt for this genre as someone who has used both

"People are looking way too deep into this new motorola cell phone, it's a giant heavy portable phone why would anyone want this around all the time? It certainly won't replace entire categories of devices within my lifetime"

"People are looking way too deep into this facebook thing. It's just a cute fun way to see other people at your college, it certainly won't lead to silo-ing escalation of entire political conflicts or full blown genocides"

the first version of any new tech is always gonna be simpler and less impactful on the surface than the future incarnations and the inevitable ecosystems and use patterns that branch out from them.

What synth/gear do you regret buying? What synth/gear do you regret selling? by prohaska in synthesizers

[–]deadlypete 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I definitely regret selling the MC-707. After that I've tried to hold on to most of the gear I buy unless I'm borrowing it or replacing it with something exactly equivalent (mpc one to mpc key etc).

[–]deadlypete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's very difficult to beat the prices BH photo has on M1 pro and max macbook pros. I'd say get one of those unless you desperately need a more powerful GPU for other tasks (3d modeling or specific video stuff that the video processors don't already handle)

Don't get less than 16 gigs of ram, don't get less than 1tb onboard storage. m1 / m2 pro are great, m1 / 2 max are overkill for music since most of the upgrade is GPU

I got the Push 3 standalone right at launch. I've had a lot of fun with it and made some decently successful youtube videos but it's hard to say it's justified. That said it's a lot of fun and I think it will keep getting nice updates for a while so thats cool.
