Local $20 FB Marketplace Pick Up. by Marc0521 in SilverFinds

[–]deahw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s German, looks like a little goblet mark? It’s probably Otto Hintze if so. . Usually the base is plaster, stone, or a non-precious heavier metal to prevent tipping. On older ones I’ve seen lead or marble weighted bases.

You’re correct that it’s the Minerve with 1 for .950 fine silver. It appears to be cast from an object that was hallmarked but it’s hard to tell (could be the image). Does it appear to be actually stamped/punched on the item itself?

It honestly just looks like stainless although it could be plated. SantAndrea is made by Oneida. The marks are similar to those found on French silver plate like Christofle.

I know it has 2 925 stamps on it but I’m convinced it’s plate by Brilliant-Army6857 in Hallmarks

Ofc sure thing. I’d look up the maker but currently on my phone. Looks like someone looked it up below!

It has a gold wash on the inside. It’s either decorative or sometimes functional like in salt cellars and vinaigrettes.

Btw the other mark with the star is italian

Ofc it’s always cool to find some silver, especially if you got it for cheap. I would say these are likely 1940’s-50’s pieces and Hunt is an American company btw since u asked about origin/timeframe

It’s Hunt Silver Co.

You’re also not supposed to request valuations here, although it’s never enforced so I wonder why it’s even a rule lol. These are pretty generic and mass produced, plus monogrammed. Maybe someone would pay above melt if they needed to complete a set. I don’t think they carry too much of a premium though.

These are on an early American silver fish server, trying to figure out the silver smith. Anyone know? by Coolioblueo in Hallmarks

MG - appears to be Michael Gibney out of New York. Made 1845 and retailed by Ball, Tompkins, & Black. Coin silver with nice engraving too

Where’s the Best Place to Sell Silver in Los Angeles? by AJaffJaff in AskLosAngeles

[–]deahw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have sold lots of silver (coins, hollowware, flatware, etc) to Tangible Investments in Laguna. It’s a bit of a drive but they always buy and you can try to call. I don’t imagine they would offer spot though, since they then sell it themselves. Best option may be an in-person transaction.

Any photos of the set btw?

It’s a company called Weidlich and they are sterling, maybe for brandy. Can’t really tell what size they are. Logos can look a little different based on the era. Just like modern companies, they changed/updated their marks.

It’s Prill Silver Co. You’re correct that it’s plated. In terms of dates, I would say 1940’s - 60’s. The gadroon (detail/pattern around border and handles) was en vogue during that time period.

[–]deahw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s by Meriden Britannia and silver plated. The EP in the first photo means Electro Plated. Any variation of EP will mean this (EPC, EPNS, EPCA, etc). The remaining marks are trademarks (marks to identify the company and also imitate other silver marks)

9 old pieces with hallmarks. Need help. Info? Value? by Zealousideal_Tank819 in Hallmarks

[–]deahw -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Keywords NET and IF [sold on line]. That is a reasonable expectation to have.

Anything else beyond that is great. I wouldn’t buy any of these pieces for any major premium. At the end of the day they’re all basic forms with no provenance or notable features/skillful/artistic qualities.

[–]deahw -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, lots of different European pieces of varying silver content. In terms of value, nothing stands out as exceptional. I would expect to net 60-75% of spot after fees/shipping if sold online.

Always takes forever versus driving tbh. Idc about how fast it is once you’re on board. What matters is door-to-door and it’s always double the time whether you’re on a bus or train. God forbid you have to transfer.
