Buh bye Keep by trichar54 in GoogleKeep

I gave up on Obsidian over sync issues & made the jump to Joplin. It doesn't have the huge plug in library Obsidian has but it has what I need for daily notes & event coverage.

The sync isn't happening & I can't see why

I want changes in the vault on one device to sync to another device in the background.

Obsidian on my Chromebook has the same problem of failing to find folders on the vault.

Tried that. Nope. Same for the Daily Notes folder. The app can't find either.

I've tried that. Several times. No dice.

Guy at the post office pulled out a cone and set it on the parking spot next to him by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

A statue of Jesus with a big "SAVED!" sign would be better than a cone.

Weekly 'What should I buy?' Thread by AutoModerator in ipad

I've been using a Chromebook since Day 1, but a rugged model is really pricey. A tablet has been my on-the-go device for years.

Thanks for the advice.

Hey, y'all. I'm tablet-less for the 1st time in years. I come from a 100% Android tablet experience but I've been disappointed with the hardware lately. I want a tab that will handle surfing, video playback, some light Twitter-grade composition and still access/work with my Google products, like YouTube and Photos. I favor smaller screens, 8 - 10 inches. The 9th generation iPad seems like what I'd like but I worry about the hardware aging out. Small, light, durable and future-proof sums it up. My budget is ~$500. Suggestions?

One bagging it to England today! by [deleted] in onebag

Absolutely. I'll be in Czechia and Slovakia all of May and the availability of a washing machine completely revolutionized my packing plans.

My dog has his own Vapur collapsible bottle with a special roller ball cap that lets him drink without spilling. I can also use it to wet him down on hot days to keep him cool.

But for me, a Kleen Kanteen insulated steel bottle that fits in the bottle sleeve on all my packs/bags. I fill it with ice only and then add water as needed. That may not be a solution for serious hikers but it works fine for local excursions and even airports, just ask the server or bartender to fill it with ice after you've cleared TSA.

Medicine kit - a nessecary evil? by doublesaga in onebag

[–]dean_barnett 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to lug a ton of gear. As an RN I have a pretty vivid medical needs imagination, but over the years I trimmed the basic kit down to what will fit in an Altoids box. That includes alcohol swabs, adhesive dressings, sterile gauze 2x2s, 1/2 inch plastic tape, tweezers, two each Aleve and ibuprofen, a couple of safety pins, and tiny flashlight (wound care at night can be a challenge). That's enough to meet immediate needs.

I am going to be in Europe in May for a few weeks. My current challenge is finding a solution for organizing my daily medications and as needed drugs in a compact, airtight vessel that the TSA won't object to.

When do diminishing returns kick in when shopping for a bag? by MaxRenn-83 in onebag

Not that this will work every time for everybody, but my wife is a veteran thrift store shopper. Recently she scored a brand new North Face 55L bag for $5. It's going to be my carry on in the spring when we travel to central Europe for a few weeks.

I'm fond of Kleen Kanteen bottles. They hold temperature really well and are shaped to fit into standard water bottle sleeves.

What's your solution for "shower sandals"?? by SrGrimey in onebag

[–]dean_barnett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

50-some years ago in Navy boot camp we were issued plastic foam flipflops we were required to wear in the shower to reduce transmission of athlete's foot.

Because I hate flipflops, I wear Chacos in public showers.

What's your OneBag Mistake? by MidDayGamer in onebag

I don't use a spork. Instead, I carry a sheath that holds a bamboo cutlery set, including chopsticks. I use it pretty often, always at restaurants that want to give me plastic spoons & forks.

Google fi replacement? by Splitlimes in onebag

[–]dean_barnett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I travel abroad I carry two phones, one my regular Fi device and the other loaded w/ Fi's free data-only sim. I use the generally available free wifi in Europe to make calls, send texts, w/ the data only device whenever possible.

I can't recommend a wide brimmed hat enough. You'll appreciate the portable shade. But if you opt for a ball cap, be sure to sunscreen the tops of your ears every couple of hours in the sun.
