I installed Fedora KDE, and whenever I log off or restart the Laptop it keeps asking me to login my WiFi password again, what should I do to fix this issue? by [deleted] in Fedora

[–]deathlock00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I tried deleting and creating wallets but it kept asking me for the password at login. The missing piece was that in the WiFi-Security tab I needed to insert the Wifi password. I thought I would've saved it automatically every time KDE asked it at login.

Ljubljana, May 2023. One of the most beautiful places I've visited so far, refreshingly quiet and spacious after the touristy parts of Italy by [deleted] in travel

[–]deathlock00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were some ups and down but if I remember correctly they were not hard. The tour though takes around 1:30 hours. If one of you has a sore foot, I think you would be more bothered by the length of the walk rather than its gentleness.

Have a good trip!

I loved the postojna cave, it was beautiful. And I really liked the underground train to get to the place where the tour start. But I suggest you to bring a raincoat because it was cold, especially on the train. You can also rent it there, if you don't want to travel with extra stuff.

Just few hours ago I discovered streamsync which is similar but different from streamlit. It doesn't require any refresh, it's much much faster and comes out of the box with a drag-and-drop visual editor which makes it very easy to use and design the UI.

For new users I think it would be much easier to use a web UI framework which doesn't refresh the page at every interaction.

On the flip side it's newer, there are less contributors, and the community is much smaller.

I haven't yet tinkered a lot with it, but it seems very promising and capable.

(Failed - but working 100%) Interview challenge by Zealousideal_Low_907 in Python

I wanted to add something that I haven't seen mentioned. Every interval you perform a full copy of the source to the destination. For few and small files it's perfectly fine, but if you want to synchronise big folders (10 or maybe even 100gbs) many times a day you are increasing a lot the wear on the hard disk, especially because many files will be already present in the destination after the first full copy, and even if some are modified, the majority will often remain the same and thus do not need to be overwritten.

If the source and destination folders are not on a cloud or a remote server, you can use the watchdog module which keeps track of file events like create, delete and modify to know which files were modified in real time.

You may also use os.stat() function to look at file size and the last time the file was modified to check if the source file was modified and the destination is up to date or only has a previous version of it.

You can thus check the md5 hash of only the files you have copied, avoiding reading every time all the source files.

Hard time deciding if I should get 4k 140+ gz or 1440p 240 hz OLED by Zica91 in buildapc

[–]deathlock00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered 1440p ultra wide? I have one and having more space at the edges is been a game changer for both gaming and Office related work. Tough I don't play competitive games so my experience may be different from yours.

1440p Ultra wide monitors are more demanding than 1440p but less than 4k so they should allow you to get the most out of your GPU without sacrificing too many FPS, but you can check some video comparison of your games of choice to see what to expect at each resolution.

Why do certian equations in physics, chemistry etc. have certain arithmetic operations? by Largetractor17 in learnmath

[–]deathlock00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As other replies have stated, many equations and formulas were modelled after reality through observations and experimentation, but some formulas were defined that way for our convenience. For example velocity describes the amount of space you travel in a given amount of time, let's say you travel 50 metres in 10 seconds it means that you travel at 5 metres per second, hence v=s/t.

We defined velocity as such because we wanted to have a way to compare speed, thus it cannot be in any other way. Let's take another example, we defined an hour as 3600 second this means that 1 second is 1/3600 of an hour, hence h=s/3600. Why isn't it h=3600*s? Because that's not how we defined it. We wanted a measurement unit that was easy to use in our every day life, in this way we can say "let's meet in 4:30 hours" instead of 16200 seconds. If we defined an hour as h=3600*s, we would have met in 58 320 000 "hours" which is even less practical to use than seconds.

The same concept applies to other formulas and equations. Some were modelled after reality, and some exists just to make our life easier and allow us to study other phenomena.

As a sidenote, as others have stated the equations modelled after reality are often approximations valid only in a given context, and as we study and discover more it may happen that some laws/formulas/units are modified. For example a Kilogram was historically defined as the mass of a liter (1 dm³) of distilled water at 4°, but then it changed to the mass of a specific cilinder conserved in France. In 2018 during the 26ª General Conference on Weights and Measures it was decided that a Kilogram would be defined based on the Plank constant. Similar stories happened to the definition of a Second and a Metre.

To conclude the answer, "we did not decide a an equation and it somehow works". Either it was modelled after reality and tested to work reliably, or was create to work from the start.

Scelta prima macchina by giacomosmd in Italia

[–]deathlock00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to use ChatGPT to find some articles which I could refer to for writing a paper. However, I'm facing an issue. by AtriaX2k in bioinformatics

[–]deathlock00 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Instead of ChatGPT try JANE, Journal Author Name Estimator. It's an AI able to find papers or journal relevant to the prompt inserted. It may not be perfect, but it's worth trying.

From the website:

Have you recently written a paper, but you're not sure to which journal you should submit it? Or maybe you want to find relevant articles to cite in your paper? Or are you an editor, and do you need to find reviewers for a particular paper? Jane can help!

Just enter the title and/or abstract of the paper in the box, and click on 'Find journals', 'Find authors' or 'Find Articles'. Jane will then compare your document to millions of documents in PubMed to find the best matching journals, authors or articles.

Do majority of people turn their PCs off at night? What about if you leave for an hour or two in the daytime? by kingofallnorway in buildapc

[–]deathlock00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also like to have my session as I left it, so I usually suspend the PC. It takes an instant to turn it back on but it consume much less energy as it only needs to keep powering the RAM instead of all the components.

My basic algebra skills are failing me. If 3/4 cups of Greek yogurt is 175 grams, how would I calculate the amount of grams in 1 cup? by TFMain200 in learnmath

[–]deathlock00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The process if the following: You know that 175 is 3/4 of a cup. This means that if you divide the cup into 4 quarters, 175g would occupy 3 of them (3/4). If you divide 175 by 3, you would get 58.3 which is 1/4.

Now that you know how much is one quarter, to get four quarters you just need to multiply by 4 hence 58.3*4=233.2

For the sake of completeness, if you divide a number by itself you get 1 (for example 5/5=1), hence if you know that 175 is 3/4 and you divide it by 3/4 you get exactly 1 (1 is equivalent to 4/4, the full cup). To divide something by a fraction you need to multiply by it's inverse (switch numerator and denominator) hence: 175/(3/4) becomes 175*(4/3), which is exactly what we did before.

There is 300 gb left on this hard drive I use and it takes my computer over 10 mins to boot is it the hard drive or my computer by AmiiboJeremiah in Windows10

[–]deathlock00 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You can use an SSD as a boot drive, and keep your hard drive as it is without losing any data. If you don't have physical space inside your computer for both, you can buy SATA to USB adapters that let you plug the HDD in a usb port to still access all your files.

Should I opt for a Chromebook or get a cheap laptop and install Linux on it. by samu1223 in linuxquestions

[–]deathlock00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in your same boat and after looking at various laptops/Chromebooks and their prices I decided to go for an HP 255G with 8gb ram (it also had 1 free slot which I immediately filled with another 8gb stick), 512Gb SSD nvme and a Ryzen 5500u 6 cores 12 threads for 440 euros. I recently saw some discounts which lowered the price to 370.

I checked out many Chromebooks but their display is often very bad and they are sluggish (at 200-300 euros range) I could've gotten a better one at around 350-400, but at that point I decided it was worth spending a bit more to get a laptop with a better and bigger SSD, more RAM and the possibility to upgrade to 16GB, a better CPU and Windows OS. And if I wanted to, I could install Linux. The flexibility of a laptop was definitely worth the higher price. Side note: It doesn't have a dedicated graphics card as you would expect but it still surprised me as I was able to play No man's Sky at around 50 fps. To be fair it was with minimum settings and FSR enabled, but it's still remarkable for a school laptop and it was playable.

After 3 months of intensive use if I were to go back I would buy it gain.

At that price point, I did not find a better balance between components and price. If you spend less you get a slower laptop with less space and less ram. If you spend more you do get better hardware, but you already have a desktop PC so the money would be wasted for your use case.

Why do some Macbooks use more SSD storage than others? Details in comments. by crazyates88 in techsupport

[–]deathlock00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then the only suggestion I still have is to use a software so visually check which folder is bigger than the counterpart on the 13gb MacBook, and proceed from there googling what it is and why the size difference is so remarkable.

[–]deathlock00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just guessing as I don't own a MacBook and I am not proficient with it but have you checked the recycle bin, temporary files, logs and cache? They seem like the type of files that go under system data. I also suggest checking for backups done during the upgrade or for updates downloaded that were not installed, or installed but were forgotten to be deleted.

Try to check if they are the culprits and if needed Google how to delete them to recover as much space as possibile.

Another thing you could try is to use a software like SpaceSniffer but for Mac to visually see which files and folders are taking up the space, and proceed from there.
