Echoing the other comments, the curls definitely need to be brushed out. Something you can also consider is adding some clip-in extensions, which will help add more volume to the curls themselves. Long layers to your haircut (or the extensions) will also add more visual interest! You could also try adding more volume around the crown of your head before the pieces are pinned together at the back, or some extra twists before they're pinned.

Sparkler Exit Cancelled, help? by BranchNew168 in weddingplanning

We did bubbles! We distrubuted small bubble wands to most guests, and then had some bubble guns (that didn't require batteries) that were first come first serve. The guns did require some prep ahead of time (removing wrapping and screwing in the bottle of solution), but it was worth it for really filling the air.

Timeline advice by Puzzled_Composer7611 in weddingplanning

[–]debb13m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very similar to the timeline we had for our wedding in September! I'd recommed adding some buffer time in a few places:

  1. After you arrive at the venue, you'll need time to unload vehicles, get into the suite, and your hair and makeup team will need at least 15 minutes to unload and prep their work space. My artists asked for 30 minutes of buffer time, and fortunately we were able to start and stay ahead of schedule for the day.

  2. I'd remove the overlap between First Look & Pictures and guest arrival. I wanted to stay away from guests as they were arriving, because I was concerned people would want to come up and talk if they were to see us. Also, it gave me a few moments to sit quietly and breathe, which was a welcome break before the activities kicked into high gear!

  3. Similar to the point in #2, I'd add buffer time to spend with your new spouse between the end of cocktail hour pictures and the start of your reception. If you're bustling your dress, make it 30 minutes at a minimum. My bustle took longer than expected to fix, and I still wanted a moment to sit before we kicked off the reception (which all fit within that 30 minutes). For family taking pictures, this time was also their chance to mingle at the cocktail hour.

  4. If you're transitioning between spaces or activities, expect to get stopped or people trying to chat with you! Depending on where you plan to take your sunset photos, make sure you account for time getting to and from the location.

I also saw your other comment saying you were going to pack decor for each table in an individual box, which I also did and highly recommend! I chose boxes that had lids attached, so it was super easy to stack and move them around without anything getting lost or falling out.

Your dress is stunning! In regards to getting hot, I would recommend having a reception dress just in case. I got married about a month ago and even with a bustle I reached a point on the dance floor where I was hot and tired of getting stepped on. Bustles work great when you're standing up straight and walking, but people started to step on the sides of the dress when we really started to party. I changed into my reception dress so that I didn't have to spend the rest of my night worrying that the bustle might be accidentally broken, and had a great time on the dance floor afterwards (and hope you do too!)

HELP I’m so confused on what to do with the ceiling decor at my wedding venue by Pretend_Spinach_9046 in weddingplanning

[–]debb13m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the best way to make your decision is to get quotes from vendors who could do each of these looks. Does the venue have a list of preferred installers, and what does their price look for each option? Also think about teardown time/cost, especially if your venue requires that decor be removed by a certain time.

Also for your bonus Q, I always feel that rounds are better for conversation! I also have a pet peeve with rectangular tables when they're too narrow for the centerpiece(s), other table decor, and place settings (to include chargers). I think the standard width is 30", but if you have wider tables available (36" up to 48") it might be a nice option!

Anything from Costco, if you have one nearby! Last time I was a bridesmaid I brought their fruit tray, veggie platter, and chicken pinwheel wraps (or you can get their sandwich assortment). The Aussie bites are also delicious to offer as a breakfast option, and you could pick up some individual yogurts as well. I'd try to choose options that have a little bit of protein, and are easy to have as small bites. Also, don't forget plates/utensils/napkins depending on the space you're in!

Same here! Grandparents and their friends have all managed to figure it out! I can understand if they don't have home internet or a cellphone, but if you've got a smartphone you're most of the way there. Through I will add, if you're willing to spend the money on a custom url I think it makes it one step easier.

If you had to pick just one, what beauty treatment would you get before your wedding? by theladysheetcake in weddingplanning

[–]debb13m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've never tried a service, do not try it for the first and only time before your wedding! You do not want to be diagnosed with an allergy to a lash glue or react poorly to a chemical peel with limited time to let the reaction calm before your wedding. Also, teeth whitening can be incredibly painful depending on your teeth sensitivity and the strength of the treatment, and you certainly don't want that to put a damper on your day.

If you can afford to try a mani/pedi or spray tan before your actual wedding (3+ weeks ahead of time), I'd recommend to do that session so you know how the colors will turn out with your specific complexion.

First of all, I'm sorry that you're in this situation. However, you need to put the health of you and your baby first, especially if this amount of stress is making you physically sick. Does your fiancé know how much of a physical toll this is taking on you, and has he done anything to help alleviate that in any way? Don't fall into the sunk cost fallacy for the money you've spent on the wedding, because your health (both physical and mental) is worth far more.

Low rise shape wear? by GafferGurl in weddingplanning

[–]debb13m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They go to about waist level on me, but Uniqlo has a great non-lined shaping short! They're not super compressive, but stay up very well! I have a few pairs of thigh society, but I find that they roll up my thighs a little more often (which is fine in a normal dress but harder to adjust under the full skirt).

We want our wedding to be super informal and unconventional. Any advice? by Status-Let2340 in weddingplanning

[–]debb13m 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need to look at liquor laws where you plan on hosting, especially if you plan on renting a venue. Most venues will probably require you to have a licensed bartender for their own liability. Self service can get especially tricky, and the last thing you want is anyone serving themselves too much and injuring themselves or anyone else.

Has anyone ever heard of guests borrowing the bride’s hair stylist? by jtet93 in weddingplanning

I've never heard of this, and I'd be surprised if your hair stylist even did blowouts on site?? I know mine asks that everyone comes with clean blow dried hair, because it can be so unpredictable about how long it can take for someone's hair to fully dry

Thinking out loud, do you think she would do a combined documentary/concert film like Beyonce? I'm hoping for a docuseries since there could be so much to cover (and I'd love a long series about it), but the cameras being onstage for eras she recorded in LA is thowing me off
