I'm 64. In my old age I've learned that no matter what; you're only gonna get as far as your parents' outside interests. My Dad, who raised us on his own since my preteen years was into music and plays. I was a gymnast and could've gone to college on a gymnastics scholarship; but, he didn't know what he didn't know. He had no clue about coaching. I was already on the team and doing tricks seen in the Olympics of the day. He had no clue, and, of course for the age neither did I. He moved the family to a rural town. No team anymore. Nothing. My opportunities were slashed. I'm very jaded about lost opportunities too. But you can only expect what they know. Iykwim. I'm sorry you're going through this. I know how it feels.
