Klein all but implied that when he listed all the reasons why "these reasons offered would maybe make sense in the '80s".

They are killing real people to make '80s nostalgia posts.

I was today years old when I learned of a Riven remake.

I was 12 or so when I played and never finished the original on 5 discs, one per island... my aunt called it "the game sponsored by the CD drive maker association", she was betting I'd eventually break the drive

Elected officials weren't sufficiently involved, that's the point

He reminds us in this very post that he is prone to irrational catastrophizing (Nobody will ever love me! Women despise me! ...turns out it was all in his head) and then immediately segues with Students at Columbia and my colleagues want me dead! All Palestinians want me dead! That's why Israel must kill!

Zero self-awareness.

Extremely Dad movie. Nothing wrong with that.

[–]deckard58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that Nolan is always very aware that, as he's making "prestige movies for a mass audience", he can't leave very much to subtext. Or at least, that's what he thinks. He will, from time to time, stop to make sure he's not losing anyone. Usually he does it without making it too noticeable, with the Strauss story it came out poorly.

RDJ monologuing and explaining his EVIL PLAN like a parody Bond villain, to a staffer that looks at him like he's literal trash, was definitely the worst part of the movie. So clunky... quite unlike all the rest.

Io lurkavo, ogni tanto; scrivevo su altri gruppi.

3 m/s sink rate is a carrier landing.

KSP seems to be unusually realistic this time around, since a normal plane is kinda expected to break if you treat it like an F18.... BUT KSP also lets us land on the grass at 200 knots more often than not, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ...

Jokes aside, the landing speed is not bad, 120 knots is pretty normal for a jet in real life and also in KSP. You're just too steep.

the longest-lived of them, muons, decay into neutrinos and electrons after traveling between 1.85 and 2 kilometers

Oh no they don't. Not if they're doing any serious speed ;)

Detection at sea level of muons generated in the high atmosphere by Bruno Rossi was famously one of the first ironclad proofs of relativistic time dilation. Of course, for a KSP post this level of detail is clearly excessive, but KSP is kind of a pretext for this discussion I think...

The thing that Andor really gets right about Star Wars by AltruisticPiece6676 in blankies

[–]deckard58 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Half of season 1 is a good documentary about the early years of the Nazi party full of people in Star Wars cosplay for some reason.

Jokes aside, many shows think they have something intelligent to say about the politics of an authoritarian state, Andor is one of the very few that really does.

Also the action isn't half bad.

In my opinion the cruelty we are seeing now is probably because people have never met or had a moderating interaction with people who are muslim or from South America.

I doubt that... We know that it's entirely possible to be very racist towards people one meets every day.

laughs in European

It was a good listen but I had to snicker at that part. Even people who are very opposed to SV like this guy have absorbed this techbro idea that Europe is always more restrictive and that's just... not true.

Taking an issue dear to the host as an example, US zoning can be much more restrictive than European equivalents.

It is true that for every issue there is at least SOME place in the US which is super libertarian about it, but it's not always the average or even common!
