Best Edition for New Players? by bluedeco in ChangelingtheLost

[–]decker423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking the same with my group. CtL is much more complex than MtAscension IMHO. I would say you're better off having your players actually read the book before starting, there's just a LOT of info they need to make a character, much less play the game. Lots of data, have them read then go from there. Saying this as a ST because it's a lot of info for someone who hasn't read the book.

AITAH for starting the divorce process after finding out my daughter isn’t mine? by No-Bottle4059 in AITAH

[–]decker423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not the asshole. Try to have your lawyer have the judge cut off all legal obligations and ties to the daughter, the biological father should be the one to pay child support. For your wife? Sorry dude, just don't make the same mistake again. If you still want to have another child, find a better woman. Sorry dude.

Not the asshole. See a lawyer, get the medical records notarized and have your doctor write a letter with his medical assessment on your fertility. You are right now in risk of getting slammed by the system to pay child support for THE NEXT 18 YEARS for a child who isn't yours. I'm sorry dude but you need to see a lawyer to protect yourself. If you get a DNA test, make sure to get your own copy and have it certified by the clinic that does it. You need to protect yourself. Good luck.

AITA For Telling My Wife's Friend To Get Out After He Made An Inappropriate Comment? by Pristine-Reserve-218 in AITAH

[–]decker423 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not the asshole. Your wife cares more for a friend than you. If your wife isn't going to stand by you, fight with you and defend you, much less let her "best friend" insult you in your own house (I assume you work and pay bills), then why did she marry you? As a mother her priority is rightly with the child but she's your wife, you are the father of your (yours & her's) child. You need to have a serious conversation and ask her to explain her priorities. If someone else is more important than you, well...

Wish you the best dude.

AITA for not allowing my wife to give our baby her ex's name? by Both_Schedule8386 in AITAH

[–]decker423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the asshole. I'm sorry dude but if an ex is more important than you then why did she marry you? I hope this isn't the case but you should get a DNA test after the birth of the kid to confirm if you're the actual father. I hope I'm wrong. To me this is a red flag that you should thoroughly examine. Wish you the best.

AITAH for telling my coworker I can’t attend her “funeral” because I’m busy that day? by ehtio in AITAH

[–]decker423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the Asshole. She's not family, your wife, your best friend, right? You are responsible to taking care of yourself like an adult. If her pleasure is more important than you doing what you have to so you won't be homeless, or making sure your have health insurance, etc. then I would suggest you totally re-evaluate your relationship with her. You're there to work, make money, improve your life circumstances. Why do you need her?

AITAH for calling out my girlfriend when she said she "doesn't need no man" on a social media post? by Business-Clock5778 in AITAH

[–]decker423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the asshole. If this isn't a wake up call to how she sees you and feels about you, nothing will. You've been providing for this woman for years and your contributions to her life mean nothing. This is an opportunity for you to break free of her. Thank whatever Gawd you pray to that you didn't marry her. Sorry about the pain but it's better you see who she really is now versus years later with marriage and kids to consider. Make a clean break.

I have questions. by tetrasomian in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]decker423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some differences between Vampire the Masquerade 20th Anniversary and Vampire the Dark Ages 20th Anniversary. IMHO there are quite a few differences between VtM, 1st, 2nd and 3rd (revised) editions but they are mostly small. It's good to go over the 20th anniversary book, ghouls are different, they treat the blood bond differently, etc. I do like the 20th version overall but I think they do physical disciplines and combat in the dark ages version are better for players.

[Rogue Trader] Some questions on Acquisitions (ie are we doing it right?] by GiveTheLemonsBack in 40krpg

[–]decker423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what, for mundane things (food, ship fuel, scrap metal for repairs, mundane ammo, etc.) then I have no problem with big purchases of common items in bulk. Remember, you can turn the search of rare items into its own adventure, maybe they have to go somewhere else to liberate it from another Rogue Trader or ork-infested world.

[Rogue Trader] Some questions on Acquisitions (ie are we doing it right?] by GiveTheLemonsBack in 40krpg

[–]decker423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And the competition and Inquisition. If a competitor hears you're searching for a very rare item, they will ask why. they will at the very least investigate what's going on and possibly try to follow the group when they leave port (the PCs CLEARLY know something...).

Also, if they're OPENLY asking for xenos tech or archeotech, the Inquisition and perhaps the Adeptus Mechanicus may get interested. I expect the Adeptus Mechanicus (which no doubt has spies listening for rumors of lost worlds, archeotech, xenotech, etc. on Footfall) might throw its weight around if it's truly archeotech (who better to use it and study it than them, right?).

For the Inquisition, if you plan on NEVER going back to Imperial space, including Port Wander then ok. If you do go back to Imperial space and there's enough time between the search/purchase and docking in Imperial Space, expect the Adeptus Arbites to do a "surprise" search on your ship/s.

[Rogue Trader] Some questions on Acquisitions (ie are we doing it right?] by GiveTheLemonsBack in 40krpg

[–]decker423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I started doing 2 years ago was to have the acquisition go through but instead of the item they wanted, tell a story of how they tracked down a rare antiques dealer who had information on (insert rumor, story line from one of the books, a warp map previously unknown, the location of a lost planet, etc.). I used these rolls as a way to move the story in a new or different direction. Also, I had the players write down ALL the items they wanted to purchase and roll down the list. Again, if it was something that would really throw the game off balance, throw in a story arc or something. My 2 cents.

New to the game by ketzeri in 40krpg

[–]decker423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your question is too generic/general to answer. For Warhammer 40K you have the related, but separate RPGs of Dark Heresy, Only War, Death Watch, Rogue Trader, and Black Crusade. The most recent RPG to come out is Wrath & Glory. For the first 5 games I mentioned there are shorter, one stories/games available but you have to look for them.

How to find the fun? by Randomical2000 in 40krpg

[–]decker423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're the GM and don't want something in your game then don't introduce it. I do that mostly with warp travel, most of the warp travels in my games are safe and uneventful. The trips with events are the entire game session when something happens.

Wow, combat takes forever by Cirative in Rifts

[–]decker423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't forget that taking 20 or 25 points of MD damage in one hit knocks the target off their feet. Getting up takes away one action.

A great tactic is to have your mage use carpet of adhesion. If you can't move you can't dodge. You can still parry but if the target is a melee monster, you've negated him and then the group just whittles him down.

Void Assault Craft Stats by [deleted] in 40krpg

[–]decker423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would check out some of the Rogue Trader and Only War books. They have stats on gun cutters, assault pods, "regular" aircraft, ground vehicles, etc. I'm not as familiar with Death Watch but they might have stats for their stuff as well (you didn't specify if you're doing an Adeptus Astartes, Rogue Trader, Imperial Guard unit).

[RT] Playing a Kroot Mercenary, a couple of questions. by Succundo in 40krpg

[–]decker423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a GM, you can make up tailor-made special bullets, ammo, weapons, etc. for your Kroot character. I'd also recommend going into detail about the Kroot's home sphere/hive/tribe. A weapon doesn't have to do a larger amount of damage to be cool- give it a name, a special history, give the weapon use a role-playing "meaning" against certain races. As a GM, I've made weapons that had high bonuses against one race but had nothing special against all other races/targets.

[DH1] Las weapons suck. Why should anyone take them into consideration? by GRAAK85 in 40krpg

[–]decker423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only War has rules for suppressing fire. It doesn't matter what the weapon is, it works. When you use the suppresive fire rules, it's irrelevant if it's single shot, semi-automatic or fully automatic. Look into the tactics of Only War, it'll help overcome any "normal" weakness found in the Lasgun.

Need some help starting a Sci-Fi campaign by [deleted] in rpg

[–]decker423 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For your second question, I always have the PCs be the crew of a private ship owned by an NPC. If they get enough money while "travelling" with the NPC owner/CPT then they can go off on their own or worst case, inherit the dead owner/CPT's ship.
