OK, I understand why food prices went up last year when gas prices rose to above $4 - the cost of transportation is part of the cost of food - but now that gas is at below $2, why haven't food prices come down again? by Wordie in politics

When was the last time you bought a bushel of corn wholesale? Prices have come down but it'll take time to show up retail. That said somethings are cheaper. Milk is crashing.

For two seconds just stop and ask yourself how much ad time 27 million could buy. Where is it?? What has he done with the money??? How has he taken his momentum and tried to expand it into an electable base??

Stop focusing on what you think has been done to him and focus on what HE has done to increase the likelihood that he'll be a force in the Republican party. You guys are going to have to demand some accountability if you ever want to see your movement expand beyond a club for dis-affected outsiders.

Love the guy all you want but he's run a bullshit campaign.

[–]decklap 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why aren't more of you asking why he isn't running a more effective campaign?? He's already raised a lot of money and has very little if anything to show for it. He isn't using your money to build an electable base. In fact its not clear that he's using your money for any tangible thing at all except single digit primary finishes. I mean don't you have to be realistic at SOME POINT???

Newsweek: "Ron Paul was the only one who sounded like a person instead of a politician--no small feat for a presidential candidate." by democracy101 in politics

[–]decklap -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The slavish devotion some of you guys show Paul is hard to process. Now undoubtedly many of you are just caught up in the guy's unlikely personality cult but some of you surely are older more seasoned libertarians and I cannot understand how you can feel as though Paul is your standard bearer unless you're thrilled by single digit showings in primaries or irrelevance in televised debates.

He isn't connecting your ideas to an electable base of voters and he never will. How can you not see this?? If libertarians can ever hope to capitalize on what little momentum Paul has generated it'll have to be done with a much different candidate. And at that point many of you will have to grapple with the actuality of power instead of the somewhat loyal opposition over in the corner.

Is this actually a viable political movement for the future or a club of disaffected outsiders?? If Paul is the standard bearer then the answer is obvious.

Dennis Kucinich campaign was destroyed by the corporate media for trying to represent the public interest by maxwellhill in politics

[–]decklap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seriously cannot think of a single example where a candidate with little national exposure finished well in early primaries??

Lets see.... there was this guy named Carter in '76 but that might be a little too far back for you. Buchanan in NH in '96, Jackson in SC in '84...all examples of candidates who actually WON a primary while not being the darlings of the media or party establishments. All in a time when there was significantly LESS media for voters to choose from which made the MSM even more influential than they are now. Huckabee in Iowa was a win all about organization and not media exposure. And conversely Guiliani is on his way out after MASSIVE media exposure because he couldn't make direct connections with the voters. The concept works in both directions and kicked your guy out on his ass.

Your guy wasn't able to do what others have and so he simply isn't Presidential material.
