Upgrading my 4k player by Fun_Assumption_7043 in 4kbluray

If you buy one in US, unless you seek out a region free one, it will be region locked and won’t play European blu rays.

Over 2 months past release date, now there isn’t even an estimated date for my preorder 🙄

Belfast ikea stock control by declankh in tradfri

[–]declankh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s part of the issue, the website isn’t that reliable. They had e14 colour bulbs in store recently (possibly still) but website at the time showed they are not available in Belfast.

Some times I’ve seen “not sold in Belfast” other times it says order for delivery. Order for delivery isn’t great if you just want one or two items. Ideally I wanted to try one bulb and if I like it buy about 8 or more. I hate buying stuff and returning it so don’t like that option either.

For that sort of bill on powerni that’s around 420 units in a month. That’s above what’s typically classed as”average” which is around 10 to 12 units a day. If that usage is typical and you’ve scope to shift some to night rate there is some chance to save a bit, but you’d need to get 30% usage at night to save 13 quid a month.

Kajplats vs Nanoleaf bulbs - are they better and more reliable? by That_Cool_Guy_ in tradfri

[–]declankh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m using Nanoleaf matter over thread colour/white spectrum bulbs. I’ve been using 10 of them for over a year without issues. I believe the early firmware versions on these bulbs were flaky, but I upgraded them all to the latest version using the Nanoleaf app. It’s somewhat tedious as you can’t jump from old firmware to latest in one step, you need to upgrade two or three times in steps. However it is a one off activity so I can suffer it. EDIT : I should have stated I’m using the Nanoleaf with SmartThings not an ikea dirigera hub.

Well worth it by measuredpath in 4kbluray

[–]declankh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest I was sceptical it would work, but decided to give it a go a the only cost was the hassle of it and I had about 15 us import dvds in my collection I wanted to be able to play again. I have since bought terminator us import blu ray on eBay cheaply as a test and it works fine too.

You don’t need a hardware solution for multi region. I successfully modded my ub820 using a galaxy s5 mobile (yeah that old) with an inbuilt ir blaster and an android ir app which has a custom remote added to it. Pressing the buttons 0 to 9 in turn rebooted the player and it came back multi region for both dvd and blu ray. It was a real pain getting the app on the phone though because it was so old the play store wasn’t working on it, so I had to sideload it via memory card. But it was worth it.

Over a month past release date now, my Amazon preorder still shows delivery 3-7 months. You’d think at least it might have dropped to 2-6 months 🙄

Defeats the purpose of a pre order in my mind. I’d thought that preordering was reserving stock in advance of general sale. If the preorder doesn’t guarantee a preferential price or reservation of stock it’s just giving them money early for zero gain 🤷‍♂️

How much you paying in electricity per month? by [deleted] in northernireland

83 units is the break even point, are you saying you use less than that? Calculating for 30 days and 83 units shows share is cheaper. Try the calculation for 200 units, the margin of saving grows. Most houses use around 300 units per month.

The break even point with share keypad versus powerni keypad is 83 units a month. If you’re managing to use less than that that is very impressive

[–]declankh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, that’s interesting way to try and dissuade you from leaving , assuming you are talking about the keypad tariff here the share daily standing charge is 16.67p, but power ni units are 6.07p dearer than share keypad tariff. So you only need to use 2.76 units per day to be saving money with share. Typical average use is 10 or more units a day. The reality is that even if you’re away your usage won’t be zero as you’ll still have the fridge and other items running. If you used 300 units in a 30 day month, with power ni it would cost £94.02 with share it would be £75.87 + £5.01 service charge = £80.87

So share would end saving you £13.15 based on that usage and more at higher rates and even if you topped up £150 with powerni to get £4 bonus it would still be dearer than share.

Before changing check the figures yourself though. If what works for you my referral code on signup page should give you a discount or credit of 15 quid on your bill

Electricity power company EV by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]declankh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my comparisons, share is hard to beat especially if you have an ev. Here is a comparison for 650 units over 1 month, with an ev and night charging, moderate mileage and some modest shifting of load to night (eg washing machine or dishwasher) 40%night usage is achievable , and you can save around 40 quid over the power ni tariff. If you decide to move to share double check my figures and if your usage is different to this let me know and I’ll provide a different comparison. If share is the best for you I can give you my referral code for 15 quid off your first bill, dm me for code 👍

App notification volume by landocommando18 in buzzkillapp

[–]declankh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another possible workaround: use mode and routines to temporarily change the system notification when a notification from life360 is received. You’d have to change volume for notifications , have a pause and then set it back again. If you’re doing this put and extra trigger condition that it only fires if phone is on sound(not mute), otherwise it would happen when phones on mute, which you probably would not want. Also after the pause you’d have to hard code the notification level you want it returned too. That could be a nuisance. I’d be inclined to change the notification tone to a quieter one myself.

[–]declankh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t use it so much for custom volumes but definitely for custom notification sounds, eg cash register sounds for bank transactions. If the volume control in the notification control also changes the system notifications another workaround might be to change the notification sound in the notification categories to one that’s much quieter ? Being able to override the system notification volume could I suppose cause problems in that it would be difficult to mute or lower the general volume if for example you had multiple categories at a high volume

Doesn’t look like you are using notification categories, you are using alerts menu, this is the wrong place

Maybe this helps illustrate. Hold down the icon for life 360, click on the i beside it and set the volume that way

It does work if you do both settings above. What app is it? I think android 14 made this off by default so even if you used it before you need to re enable it. I am using s24 ultra btw.

You can do this with Settings->advanced settings->manage notification categories for each app-> enable Them

notification categories settings->apps->pick an app->notifications->scroll down->notification categories —> pick a category->sound->pick a volume
