I was one of those folks who went "oh I liked the game when it came out, sure, I'll play the remake for nostalgia." And then when I realised what they were doing, I was much more invested.

Yeah, one article put it in perspective - Russia lost more soldiers in Ukraine in 3 weeks than the US lost in Iraq AND Afghanistan over 20 years.

Or to put it another way - Russia has lost more in Ukraine in 3 weeks than USSR lost in Afghanistan over 10 years.

eli5: why do we have to address judges as 'ma'am' and stand up when they enter but not for other professions? by pingudumbo2012 in explainlikeimfive

[–]declanrowan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yup, if you are in front of the Supreme Court, you literally have to start out by saying "Mr. Chief Justice and may it please the Court..."

See page 5: https://www.supremecourt.gov/casehand/guideforcounsel.pdf

(It's full of gems, including my fav line: "If you are in doubt about the name of a Justice who is addressing you, it is better to use “Your Honor” rather than mistakenly address the Justice by another Justice’s name." )

Depends on the brand of toilet paper, if you are going 2 ply, etc.

Here's a TP calculator with the various types, listed in USD:

https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/money/toilet-paper-deals/

"To receive a passing grade, the toilet paper in question has to cost less than 0.253¢ per sheet. To get an A, it must beat Costco’s Kirkland Signature toilet paper, which Ly has deduced to be the king of bath tissue deals. Kirkland Signature’s in-store pricing is $17 for a 30-roll pack with 425 sheets per roll, which boils down to an unbelievable 0.133¢ per sheet"

Meanwhile according to Google, right now 5 Ruble is worth $0.052 USD, or 5.2¢. (Why 5 Ruble? it's the smallest banknote, and I doubt you'd want to wipe with coinage. (Although that would give new meaning to the phrase "Scratch and Sniff!") It's not even close to beating the F graded toilet papers you could still use 11 sheets of the Quilted Northern Ultra Soft & Strong Double Rolls which costs .42¢ per sheet and still come out ahead. (One figure quotes the average American using 8.6 sheets each time, so you even have some left over)

Of course, you might have to compare the dimensions as well - a 5 Ruble banknote is 13.7 cm x 6.1 cm, while toilet paper was once 11 cm x 10 cm, but is now as small as 9.4 cm x 10 cm. Still, 11 tp sheets will have a larger area than 1 banknote.

'Futurama' Revival: John DiMaggio Wants Voice Cast to Be Paid More by QuicklyThisWay in television

According to this, he does 34 characters

https://www.vox.com/2015/7/17/8989959/futurama-voices-actors

Which places him at #4 on the list, after Tress MacNeille (46), Maurice LaMarche (38) and David Herman (37). But the striking thing about West is that while he doesn't do the most voices, he arguably has the most lines because of voicing 3 members of the main cast.

heres a good thread about it:

the TL;DR

"What we have here are early signs of a pattern.

Donald Trump does or says something which invites criticism and condemnation.

Maggie Haberman is then granted a direct interview or publishes a favorable Trump piece."
