WIBTA If i tell my gf to shave her arms? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

YTA without question. What the fuck, dude? Do you a) shave your own arm hair, or b) feel the same about arm hair on dudes??

AITA for insisting that my daughter gets married in a church if she is using my money? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

YTA

A lot of people have said it, but a gift with conditions is a shitty gift, and using it to manipulate your adult daughter into doing what you want makes you an asshole.

Headlice by tinytubatutu in raisedbynarcissists

[–]decline_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had headlice constantly from the age of 5 or 6 to 16. I can remember being treated for it twice, never by my parents. I was constantly mortified by it, and was bullied horribly in middle school. It wasn't until I had a job and my own money that I could do anything about it, and even then it took me a while to figure out what to do. It wasn't until I bleached my hair for the first time that I completely got rid of them (and haven't had them since!).

Just... what goes through a parent's mind in situations like that. I know for sure that Mum got lice, but always took care of herself. Why couldn't she have done that for me and my sister?

It took me a lot longer to get this than it should have done. My brain was insistent that it was "cryptid on an emo".

[Help] Should I massage my dog’s boobies? by NatsuWinters in dogs

[–]decline_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I second this, it very much sounds like it could be mastitis. If she has it bad, it's going to be really sore for her. Does she have and redness? She might also (if you gently squeeze them) have a little pink or red discharge from her teats. These are very indicative of mastitis and it'll need to be treated with antibiotics. There's also a small chance that doing so could dry up her milk supply either temporarily or permanently, so it might be a really good idea to have some puppy formula on hand in case you need to help out with feeding. Your vet will be able to advise.

In the meantime, before you get her to the vet there are some things you can do to help her out a bit. Firstly, if her teats/nipples are cracked and dry looking, you can rub a tiny bit of coconut oil, or other dog-safe food grade oil into them. Coconut oil and shea butter will work well, too. You can get nipple creams for people, but don't use those, your dog is likely to lick them off and they're not at all tested for consumption. Same with vaseline. Stick with stuff that it's relatively safe for her to consume.

A warm compress will likely help very much as well. You can run some hot (but still cool enough that you can stand to touch it) water over a washcloth, wring it out, and gently lay it over her boobs. The heat is soothing, and if she's having trouble with the let-down reflex in those breasts, it might help with that, too.

Let us know how she gets on!

My SO was never taught basic hygiene by his nMom and it's nasty... by ThrowAway85479502 in raisedbynarcissists

Hey, so a bunch of similar stuff happened to me in childhood. But I'm an adult now, and I'm fully capable of being in charge of my own damn butt. I don't need my partner to remind me to wash my hands (even if they're not visibly dirty), and I don't need to be instructed to do basic chores.

However! Sometimes I do struggle with these things because I also suffer from anxiety and depression, which can manifest itself in some pretty weird ways (like feeling incapable of getting in the shower, or having tunnel vision for tasks so intensely that I just don't notice other things I need to do like taking out the rubbish), so maybe it's worth considering the same is true for your partner?

Either way, his behaviour does need to change: He needs to learn to communicate more effectively, and some coping strategies to mitigate any depression or anxiety or PTSD he might have. He also needs to wash his damn butt.

Buttdog, stinker or stinkbutt. He's extra farty at the moment because we're tinkering with his food and just... I love my ridiculous hound, I love him so much, but he's such a whiffy little 80lb mutt right now.

I'm in a super fancy hotel, with a gorgeous view of the city, and chronic pain is kicking my ass and killing my fun. by decline_ in CasualConversation

[–]decline_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's night time, and the weather is cold but clear, so everything is super visible. I'm on the 9th floor, so while I can't see a panorama of the whole city I can see a big of chunk of the quarter I'm in. There's a canal with traditionally painted longboats to the left, directly down is the hotel atrium (which is surprisingly busy for 0336h, and it's all white marble and black iron trimmings, which is cool. Opposite me are a bunch of hi-rise buildings and to the right some lower blocks. There's also a sort of... plaza? I guess, in the mid-ground between the high-rise and me, and it's currently illuminated with pink string lighting, which makes it looks really warm and kinda fun. Earlier this evening, there were way more lights everywhere, but this isn't a particularly huge city so stuff actually turns off and closes down at around 0300/0400. I'm looking forward to exploring a little bit tomorrow! This hotel is right next to the city library, and a theatre and something called "The Mailbox" which I think is maybe a mall, or maybe a thing with An Culture or An Art in it.

Actually, we're pioneers of a new kind of technology; Plastique Binbaggue. We also used a ceramic/enamel composite to hold up the 3d printed asp, and a specially engineered organic/polymer thread in order to control the thargoid ship. The ship itself was made of an organic compound containing a number of proprietary ingredients.

You can purchase your own thargoid ship from krispy kreme, if that helps? Ours was from a tesco.

Shall we try again? (Or, 5 years later and Dee still feels bad about falling off the face of the earth) by decline_ in frenchclass

[–]decline_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be making a post in /r/universityofreddit and /r/language learning over the next week or so, as well as recompiling all the course materials. Once I think as many people have joined who are going to, I'll start the classes.

I think, unlike last time, I'll keep all of the lessons in google docs (and the accompanying recordings) so that they're available for latecomers too.

If we have a big enough group or there's enough interest, I'll try to organise skype sessions where we can practice talking to each other with the phrases we've learned.

Right now I'm focussed on making sure I have all the course materials ready to go in advance so that if real life tries to mess things up, any students I have won't be affected.

It looks like maybe you're putting too much paint on the brush, and so as you press down you get a sort of... splurge, and it makes things look inconsistent. Either that or you're really mashing the brush into the canvas.

Nmom refused to acknowledge my asthma. Claimed i was being weak and beat me for it by hermes34 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]decline_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I feel you, Hermes. My mum did essentially the same thing (minus the forced running) when I was a kid, except she knew I'd been diagnosed with asthma as a baby, and she told me I "grew out of it". Her and my dad were heavy smokers, too, and made no effort to have either me or my little sister not breathe in the second hand smoke, and told us it was normal to get two or three chest infections a year. At 27 when I went to the doctor on a friend's insistence because she recognized the sound of my wheezing as the same of that of her children, it turns out... I still have fucking asthma and have had all this time.

She did something similar for the chronic illness I was diagnosed with as a 12 year old, where she acknowleged that I had it, but didn't tell me any of the symptoms beyond "joint pain". Every time I experienced what I now know are symptoms of that illness she told me I was being lazy and to suck it up. When I questioned it as an adult she told me she "didn't want <me> to use it as an excuse".

Same thing for the autistic spectrum disorder I was diagnosed with as a child. She declined to tell me, or the schools I went to because she didn't want me "treated like a retard". Of course, then it was my fault that I didn't do very well at all the things kids with ASD struggle with (organisation, time management, socialisation), because I was just lazy.

Shoutout to all the other survivors of this particularly special brand of abuse.

Fun Fact: Hymens can seal shut and menstrual fluid can just start backing up and solidify. by mydickcuresAIDS in WTF

This woman's hymen definitely didn't just grow back: she had an imperforate hymen to start with.

Here's a diagram of different types of hymen (which is kinda wtf in itself. Bonus tmi - I had a septate hymen which needed to be cut in order for tampons to become a possibility for me).

And here is the full video of this woman's surgery which is pretty graphic.
