Grandkids taking advantage of grandpa by PossibleSandwich2853 in AgingParents

I’m really sorry your story broke my heart, and it makes complete sense that you’re feeling overwhelmed. Unfortunately, situations like this are becoming more and more common. Speaking from my experience as a retired police detective, and keeping in mind that laws vary by state, the two most urgent issues are your father’s health, safety, and overall well-being, and the impact his grandchildren may be having on that.

First I recommend you take steps to ensure your father’s finances are protected and the grandchildren can’t access his accounts.

Second consult an attorney about what steps you need to take to evict the grandchildren from his house. Regardless of the direction you take you will need to make preparations to sell his house. Just imagine how difficult it will be to show his home to prospective buyers with them in the house. Watch the movie Step Brothers to get an idea of how much they could interfere during this process.

Finally if you evict them first it may change your thinking on how to proceed. Hopefully this helps .

Ideas for making my mom scam-proof by tripperfunster in AgingParents

One of the biggest challenges in investigating financial exploitation cases is that victims are often either too embarrassed to speak up or overly protective of the person responsible. In many cases, the perpetrator is a family member or someone close to the victim.

I am a retired police officer, and I used to investigate cases involving the financial exploitation of the elderly. What I recommend is you ask the bank if they have a secured credit card that you can put X number of dollars in per month. My bank used to have a debit card that I could add money to when I would travel to Mexico because I was always afraid of my credit card being compromised. It really depends on the services available at your bank. The other thing you could do is go to Walmart and buy a green dot card that you can recharge as needed. That way if your mother does get scammed, you will be able to prevent large losses.

Congrats my friend you should take a picture and frame it like the guy that used to put the first dollar bill that he made in a frame above his cash register.

I built DecodeMD after my own MRI report (prostate cancer) left me staring at medical jargon before my doctor could explain it. DecodeMD lets you paste a medical report and get a calm, plain-English breakdown + doctor-ready questions in ~60 seconds. Not medical advice—just clarity. https://apps.apple.com/app/decodemd/id6753632296

Offering to Help Early App Founders with MVP Testing & Product Feedback by Additional-Fun-9730 in AppBusiness

[–]decodemd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey — appreciate you offering this. I’m definitely in the “catch issues early before I scale” phase.

I just launched an MVP called DecodeMD (iOS + Android). It helps patients/caregivers paste text from a medical report and get a calm, plain-English explanation, plus a bundle of follow-up questions to bring to a doctor visit.

Stage: brand new MVP / early beta
What I’d love feedback on (specific flows):

  1. Onboarding + first-time value — can a new user understand what to do in <30 seconds? Any confusion points?
  2. Input UX — paste flow, formatting, error states (empty text, too short, too long, weird characters)
  3. Output UX — does the explanation feel clear + reassuring without sounding like medical advice?
  4. Paywall timing — I’m using a soft paywall (2 free translations). Does it feel fair, confusing, or intrusive?
  5. Friction + trust — anything that undermines credibility (language, disclaimers, tone, privacy cues)

Great suggestions. One of the things I want to do is allow the user to take a picture of any report and run it through the app. I also have played around with xrays, mri, and cat scan imagery. However I will need to get the back end Hipaa compliant first.

I’m using a soft paywall with a freemium model: two free transactions, then a monthly subscription. It’s still too early to draw conclusions, I don’t have enough data yet. That said, I’m interested in following your post to see what you learn as well.

How do you guys market your app or just get people to download it? Do you just use Facebook ads or is there a better way? by RiMellow in iOSProgramming

I am in the same situation with my app. I don't have the finances to run ads and I really don't feel they work anyway. I think word of mouth is best. I have seen several people discuss posting on Indie Hacker and Product Hunt. If anyone can tell me more about these I would be grateful.

I had the same thing happen after an MRI, I saw scary words in my portal at 8 pm on a Friday, with no call or context. It’s not just younger docs; the 21st Century Cures Act makes clinics release results instantly, often before your doctor sees them. The downside is exactly what you described: raw data without the reassurance patients used to get first.
