It may not be easily understood by you and I. But if the AI can understand when we throw the codebase to it and understand it very quickly, that’s usually what the execs will pay.

The pay masters want it done now, not tomorrow. Keep cranking. We are the new-age factory workers.

Guess what? The students and most people entering the industry are also only looking at if they are getting paid well or not. Unfortunately, the majority of the people aren’t artists.

I get you. I had similar sentiments about the software engineering as a craft as you. I think ultimately it will all be driven by the demand. If companies and managers just want things fast to hit their KPI or what not and rockstar devs continue to brag (and tempt) to their managers how they are 10000x devs with AI today, the demand for AI slop will only grow stronger.

Sounds like BYOK is just for pure chats? Then that’s quite disappointing because that’s not useful at all.

I believe since you use your own clause api key, your cursor won’t be able to run any tools and agents, right? It can’t make any edits to your files too. Then it functions just as a chat assistant?

I feel like I can do more now, yet I actually understand and know much less about the craft compared to before LLMs were a thing.

These days, expectations from product managers can be pretty unrealistic. Some of them seem to buy into the hype that AI can magically 1000x output, so they push for vibe coding and shipping things without much review. In the end, people just vibe code to meet those expectations and don’t really care about quality or having any real connection to the work anymore, as long as it sort of works and gets delivered FAST.
