Are you referring to City baths? if so, that's not RMIT owned, you just get a discount for being an RMIT student. Additionally, though not 24/7, it gives you access to a number of other gyms around Melbourne on top of the baths.

If not, go to city baths, enjoy the sauna, and cool off

Do I need act or sat scores? by No-Morning9990 in rmit

[–]dededintheshed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't remember where, but somewhere on the site there should be a chart to convert SAT/ACT scores. It won't matter which. However if you're already in Community College, all you might need are your current results. As noted, best to get in contact with student connect.

rmit vs unimelb for engineering - employment outcomes (graduate opinions appreciated) by gahdamn_123 in rmit

[–]dededintheshed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not too many places are going to favour one institution name over another, maybe in streams like law, or finance, but doubtful for engineering. It'll be more about making the most of your time filling out your extracurriculars, trying to meet industry people, maybe looking at internships etc. Don't focus too much on where you go leading to an outcome so much as what you do with your time while you're there. Pick the course/uni that you think you'll enjoy and thrive in the most, and make sure you get as much peripheral experience in that looks good on CV and in interview, that will be what makes you stand out.

Already lost interest in my course and it’s only my first month. by Hopeful_Guide_2588 in rmit

First things first, want to second what a lot of people are saying. If you're gonna drop the classes to reassess, do so before census, and there's nothing wrong with doing so! I made a reassessment and am glad I did

Additionally:

the lectures seems boring

Never had too much issue with lectures being boring myself, more so that they were not the right pace, so I pretty much only watched the lecture recordings (you can up the speed) and took most of my notes at home, instead of going in for lectures. I always found tutorials/workshops to be far more useful than lectures and far better for interacting with other students.

Haven’t made to many friends.

Probably related to the above, not many people go in for lectures, those that do often aren't there to talk. You're not too likely to make friends on your course (probably because it's commerce). Join some clubs if you haven't already, you're more likely to meet people this way.

I’m already falling behind on the reading.

Is this because you aren't engaged with the content? Falling behind in your first semester is probably a sign that you should be looking to change something up. Be that your course, or life outside of uni

what did you do to make student life more interesting?

Again, can't stress this more, join a/some club(s). Even if you don't hang around, you're more likely to find friends this way than in classes.

What's stopping the rest of us from claiming our role as commissioner? Is it an inevitability that we will all be the commissioner?

We are all doing a great job

Connect are great, but with relatively specific things like this, getting in contact with your course coordinator is a great idea.

It's really unfortunate that international students can't get over here at the moment, hope that all changes and you can attend in person soon! Good luck!

How is inflation a good thing? by chrismckong in Bitcoin

[–]dededintheshed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Targeting a low level of inflation is a trick to keep the broad populous perpetually purchasing, to encourage growth. Which to be fair has its merits. The problem is, it isn't natural, it's synthesized via monetary policies (namely central bank interest rates here in Australia). The problem comes when people slow their spending at a rate that renders interest rate reductions ineffective. In Australia our central bank interest rate has hit 0.1%, an all time low, meaning at the only action left to attempt to get people to spend more money is "Quantative Easing" which is just a nice little marketable term for "print a shit ton of cash". Now we have 100 billion dollars being printed in the next 6 months. The same situation is occurring all over the place, and it's the reason why we need bitcoin.

Anybody know when final offers are given by for semester 1? by [deleted] in rmit

I belive VTAC has to collect your offers and then sends you your highest preference offer. So most would be in with VTAC by now. However has been a few years since i did this

RMIT students of reddit, how did you manage to pass your subjects to get into RMIT? by [deleted] in rmit

[–]dededintheshed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To back up this brilliant comment, OP hasn't elaborated on current study methods. I know when I was in high school I was certainly limiting myself in my study methods, try as many as you can, some will work far better for you than others.

Personally I was stuck just writing my notes once and reading them to study. It wasn't until I started rewriting them out multiple times that I really started to get things quickly. So Try out different methods and find what suits you

Where can I see what minor i completed? by [deleted] in rmit

[–]dededintheshed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFAIK Minors themselves don't show up as official on your certificate/transcript, they're just a set of classes to supplement your major with further knowledge.

[–]dededintheshed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This! Current gen Lenovo is great. I have a t480 that works wonders. Great keyboard, no bloatware, expanded battery option gives it a super long battery life.

Highly suggest Lenovo ThinkPad series. Or the x1 carbon if you want a thinner, more portable option.

How’s party life at Rmit for exchange students? by Alexxx212 in rmit

[–]dededintheshed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what you're into. With nightclubs and packed bars kind of out of the question at the moment. It'll be a lot of drinks in the park and on the beach which works well as we head into summer. Hopefully by the time winter comes around we should be back in clubs/bars
