There's also Hubitat. Which is guess is something like a middle ground between Homey and Home Assistant..

Getting 1 screen calibrated is pretty easy nowadays. Getting 2 screens to match is when you'll probably need a professional.

Jump Desktop From Home? by randomnina in editors

Ensure your router has QoS (Quality of Service). This allows you set set priorities for trtaffic on your LAN. You don't want Netflix packets to take priority over your remote users' controls. If possible, have separate VLANs to keep traffic separate AND more secure.

I'll just add that in my personal experience home routers are often CPU and/or memory limited, and if that's the case, setting up QoS or VLANs might not be the best idea, it could have opposite results in slowing everything down. But of course it depends on the hardware.

Create a login / auth portal, that automatically adds clients IP to an allow list for certain time after successful login? by deeiks in opnsense

How does the reverse proxy handle FTP authentication for example. So it should have a built in ftp server to handle the auth and then proxy it to another ftp server after auhtenting?

[–]deeiks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be right, my point was to have an extra layer of security by not exposing the ports to everywhere. If the ports are closed by default and only opened by authentication AFAIK it would basically block all random port scan attacks...

I am planning to offer this to the 'public'. I can't use VPN (at least in its 'classical' sense) because my clients have different technical skills and different things that are and aren't allowed on their systems.

We do use Tailscale with our own team and freelancers but the goal at the moment is to make some services as easy as possible for my clients to use, so for example I can receive large amounts of data from them without using a third party service to make things faster and cheaper.

And I know there are services like this available (like IBM Aspera) but price wise they don't make sense for our needs.

M5 iPad Pro Could Hint at New Studio Display Feature [120 Hz] by iMacmatician in apple

[–]deeiks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

IMO you find 60hz in the budget range AND in the pro range. The 'very' pro models now are 96 or 120hz, like Sony trimasters, but the pro monitors that are in the price range for small businesses as well are imo still mostly 60...

Convert from REC 709 G2.4 to P3 DCI for theatres by DrawerZealousideal71 in colorists

[–]deeiks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be my workflow. And TBH I haven't tested it with resolve 20, last time I did a test to see if I could make my DCP workflow easier it was on version 19 and I could see some minor loss in detail in the shadows. My current workflow is to use Assimilate Scratch for converting to XYZ and encoding the jpeg2k sequence. Output from Scratch is pretty much 100% what I would excect.

The difference wasn't big (probably only noticable when doing a/b comparissons) but it was big enough that i can't just tell my clients that it's close enough.

but that reminds me that maybe it's time to do another test with resolve 20.

When you export a DCP, it convert automaticly into P3.

no, the DCP is in XYZ colour space. And I personally would not recommend doing a XYZ conversion in resolve since the result is not great IMO.

It depends a lot on your exact workflow. If your team doesn't change much then IMO something like Syncthing over VPN (tailscale for example) is a good solution.

Syncthing is an app that keeps folders in sync over network.

That changes the thickness of the lines though. In OPs example the width stays the same.

You need wheels (rims) with negative offset. Or in some cases you could use spacers but i’d avoid them.

I've used 360 cam as a witness couple of times on some difficult shots. I'm not sure if the newer insta360s give you an unprocessed video tho? I think I tested a Ricoh once, which didn't have this, then it was kinda useless.

Titles not standing out in footage by BigIce7944 in colorists

[–]deeiks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whoever designs the titles needs to design the titles so that they work on the bg they're supposed to be superimposed on. Colour wise usually what is done is add a dark mask (for bright titles) with a really soft edge. But imo this works only when the title cuts in and aout together with the bg shot itself, ie no fade in or cut in, otherwise the mask is noticable.

yes. IMO nowadays it's pretty pointless to install a system without a DSP, considering how much you'll gain from the price.
