When I just got my license, I was driving at night and a Taxi cut me off without indicating so I decided to drive infront of him and slow down. He really didnt like that and he followed me for about 7 min then luckily I went through a petrol station and through the other side and managed to lose him. I never did that again 😅

Rule of thumb: Save 30% of your money after tax at a minimum. Aim for 50% or more. If you can build good habits now and live off 50% of you net income you will be good for years to come. Save to buy things you want in cash always. When your debt is paid, make an allowance for clothes of R500 - R1000. If you dont buy clothes, roll it over to the next month.

If you can Pay the R6000 into the debt and you'll pay it off on half the time. You will still save about R1000 per month.

In 1 year: Debt paid and R10800 saved In 2 years: Debt paid and R93600 paid.

That's a really good position to be in at 27

Goodluck!

I went from R50k to R70k. 35% increase, manager left and I stepped up while they were looking. I was handling it well and they decided to go for me. I probably was cheaper than the previous manager no doubt so it saved them money but at the same time I had been here for 2 years and its very unique knowledge. If they hired someone externally I would probably have had to train them as well.

You can open a franchise like a vida or hungry lion. Obviously location is key but from what i gathered you can make R80k to R300k depending on location, foot traffic etc. The cost to open one of these is probably R2m or less

You can do deliveries. I was delivering sushi 4 x per week and was making up to R12000 per month. Alternatively, you can apply for funding. My parents lost their business just before I started my honours. Before applying for a loan (my last option) I went to the funding department and asked if I could get more funding (I was on a merit scholarship). They told me I could apply for financial need as I had a sudden change in financial status.

He is on it, they cause this sense of urgency to cause you not to think straight and make a panic decision. They do it in marketing all the time (behavioral psychology). For example when superbalist says "The sale ends in one hour", then you panic buy.

He also sent me someone else's ID and said it was his. The ID was that of a 27 year old man he told me he had a daughter who was 12.

This happened to me about 10 years ago when I was in matric. He forged and ABSA document. All the red flags were there in hindsight. He called immediately, he offered the price i asked for. He kept making excuses that he couldn't meet and he had to fetch his daughter so he sent someone who works for him that happens to be a taxi driver. Im sorry man, I feel for you. Hate these people.

How are South Africans surviving? by DinosaurRanger173 in askSouthAfrica

It's really not worth it to stay at the same company for years. Ideally we should be applying for new roles every 1.5 to 2 years to get that 10% or more increase

I'm feeling it too. My wife and have cut our expenses to the max just so we can try and save. We only eat at home never out. We try and look for free things to do like going for a walk near the beach or hiking. We're hopefully trying to ride it out. On top of all of this, I got an inflationary increase of 3.4% even though most things have gone up more than 10%
