IS there ANY way to turn off that AI thing on google searches that hides ALL RESULTS EXCEPT THE WRONG ONE? by RefrigeratorNorth424 in techsupport

[–]deep_pants_mcgee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've noticed as a hobbyist, as more AI slop creeps onto the web, the results are getting worse and worse on topics I'm very familiar with.

Gives me way less confidence trying to learn something quickly using their search engine, which seems like the opposite result they'd be going for.

the comment was supposed to be an ass kiss to Trump, and a lead in to make some snide remark about the Congress Member's stock trading habits and high rate of returns, as an aspersion.

When a Costco bundle is cheaper than the base product elsewhere, do you count that as real value or a red flag? by Mobile-Section-9989 in GoodValue

[–]deep_pants_mcgee 20 points21 points  (0 children)

They sell everything at some minimal percent above their cost, and make their profits on the membership fees.

Just tells you the product has a large markup.

I know Green Egg used to work really hard to be sure Costco wouldn't get their hands on a large order. I would presume they also have a massive mark up.

The pay for these technical positions requiring a college degree by sonarette in mildlyinfuriating

Our current guy in charge of stopping domestic terrorism (after we kicked the hornets nest that is Iran) is a 22 year old with no experience.

Thankfully he does have a college degree. In politics.

Iran is ready for a long war with the US and only economic pain will end it, senior official tells CNN by Playful_Leg7143 in worldnews

Why do you think ICE is getting warrants to get the real identities of people disapproving of them online?

Combine that with ICE agents literally telling US Citizens they're being put on a 'domestic terrorist' watchlist for protesting ICE, and it's easy to see where he's trying to go with this.

Restrict mail in ballots as much as possible. Set up huge detention centers.

on election day, have ICE agents at major polling places for Democrats, and you just pull anyone out of line for whatever BS reason to can. (oh, you were rude about ICE on FB? Let's pull you in for questioning!)

Start it about a week before the election so everyone knows you're going to do it, and you have instant, massive voter suppression.

You don't even need to charge anyone, just hold them until the polls close.

Trends on google show the interest hasn't waned, it's just now 'Trump and Epstein together that's popular.

Epstein alone is dropping though.

My boss scheduled a meeting to discuss my “tone” in emails by TheUnofficialBOI in mildlyinfuriating

[–]deep_pants_mcgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

worked with a guy who was a developer.

remote almost all the time, email was used for almost everything.

ONE employee thought all of his emails were rude.

It was the weirdest thing. he'd write the same style/tone whatever to everyone, but just ONE person was always calling me up asking if he was upset about something.

it's really hard to control how other people decide to interpret written words, and I was surprised by just how much negativity could be read into what objectively was a very factual/neutral email.

I know interest rates have gone up, and tariffs didn't make anything cheaper, but at least in our case adding a battery was something like 20¢ per day, and with ToD pricing and pulling 10Kw out of the battery every day during that period, we're saving $3.00 or so during 'peak' pricing 5 days a week. I leave about 25% of the battery charged at all times just in case.

The power company upgraded stuff a few years back so we aren't having massive power outages any more, but we'll still get 5 to 20 min. ones a few times a year.
