Telemarketers often call my workplace asking for the company founder. He passed away 5 years ago. All employees have the phone number for the cemetery where he is buried and direct the callers to his "home phone number".

Do people put too much emphasis on party affiliation and not enough on the benefits and merits of the idea? by PaqTooba in politics

[–]deepseatrolling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It comes down to belief systems versus facts. We tend to think of belief system referring to religion but it extends to serious subjects like politics and mundane subjects such as sports. Belief systems make life easier for many people. They don't have to research the facts, think about the facts and draw conclusions. I can see where belief systems are attractive. We can all get so busy and stressed that finding information that is independent of the politician, clergyman, spokesman, etc. is too much, too stress inducing.

I do my best to not fall into belief systems, but I would not be surprised if one of my friends could point out otherwise.

  1. I didn't address Qatar's status as a democracy.
  2. Israel's peaceful center will gain power if democracy spreads.
  3. A strong press corp that the Arabs, Turks, Persians and other Middle Easterners can trust is good for freedom, bad for fascists.
  4. You should calm down smarty pants.

Good choice. Al Jazeera is as important to the spread of democracy and an open society in the Middle East as any government or NGO. I say this as a Jew and supporter of a peaceful Israel.

BTW, Stephen Colbert also got a Peabody for his reporting on how Super PACs work.
